What?!??! How's your dad so cool as to know about 703s?
He got me into the jeep thing. Either I told him about them, or he found them while browsing the forums. He passed away in March, and my stepmom is moving to his hometown on Friday. I also found a 99+ intake manifold and APN header (the one that didn't fit on my old '89). We still have his 96 XJ, but I'm not sure what's happening with it right now. I have inherited a new project though...
Dad's 1968 Mercury Cougar with a 351 Windsor. I think I'm going to change the oil when we get to the new house, it's been sitting for a long time.

Man, I'm real sorry to hear about your dad. My wife just lost her dad in May of '13. I was pretty close with him too. My wife took it a lot harder - she was a daddy's girl to the core. It's been hard on the whole family.
Looks like he had a pretty nice project going. My dad had a '68 cougar too. His was teal color. I keep telling him he needs to search for another cougar, but he's stuck on wanting to find a '65 mustang (his first car).
It's definitely been hard, but we're still moving forward.
This car was originally teal, but it got beat on before my dad got it. He spent a summer on body work, then painted it. It was a four season car for him I'm leaning towards resto-mod... Maybe some Recaro or similar seats... I could have the seats out of my 89 XJ reupholstered to match the aqua interior, too
Back on topic, my jeep needs some heavier leaf springs if I'm going to tow anything. I moved a few weeks ago and the rear tires wore holes into the inner fender flares
The new Generals are awesome; they have just enough traction on gravel to be fun. I took the jeep through an old gravel pit and didn't feel like I lost any traction with street pressure. On the highway, they're quiet as can be.
I installed the 703's today. From rebuilding the injectors to closing the hood, it took me 3-4 hours. I took my time and cleaned everything. I reused the quick-connect seals and haven't had any problems. The initial start up was rough and sputtery, but after a minute it smoothed out. Now the tac needle holds almost steady around 600rpm. The stock injectors were all gunked up, so I think I would have the same results if I just cleaned them. No power gains, just a smooth running engine. Since Dad bought them, I'm only into this mod for $12. Best money I've ever spent on any jeep!
The Jeep got a its first tune-up from me today. I replaced the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. Premium everything except for the copper Champion plugs. She idles a lot smoother so far; I'll know more with the cold start in the morning.
The old plugs looked perfectly normal, but they were pretty white and crusty looking. The new stuff really woke this thing up; I can feel the tires right on the verge of breaking loose on a holeshot. It's definitely fun!
Update time, I guess. Our winter was pretty mild. I'm glad I got the grabbers; they kept me on the road pretty well.
I just replaced the radiator yesterday and I replaced the heater core in December. I still need to have the AC recharged. I think I'm going to get a new radio and door speakers soon.
I'm going to start looking for a subaru for a DD. We got my brother one, and I have it right now. I like it a lot, but would prefer one with a 5 speed.
I used to wonder how a person could go months without posting on their build threads, but now I get it lol I've been busy working, fishing, and hunting. My jeep hasn't changed at all, but I have some little projects to do on it. I have replacements for the blower motor, steering stabilizer, and ends on my audio cords for my sub (broke one taking the box out this summer).
I drove the cougar for the first time this spring. Holy horsepower! It burns through first gear and into second. I'll be getting tires and brakes for it this spring, and I hope to be driving it next summer. It rides nice considering how long it sat. I drove it around town, then I got on the highway to park it at my cousin's farm. I can't wait to be cruising around in that beast.
The jeep's still going strong at 194k miles. It's starting to run rich; it sounds like it has a healthy cam lope. I'll be chasing solutions for that.
I just ordered an engine monitor from Nickingtimefilms. He figured out the code and stuff behind the renix system and made basically a code reader for renix jeeps. Of course, instead of codes the system only provides data when the ignition is on. I'm pretty excited to install it and see what's going on in there.
