So I started swapping some of the options in. Today I installed the power windows, locks and mirrors, and also while I was about it I installed the chrome door handles. The job went surprisingly smooth. Everything was plug and play - the window regulators from that 89 four-door Wagoneer fit directly into my 96 two-door with no mods needed. I had to make new rods between the door lock motors and the latches though, because the Cherokee required them to be about an inch longer than the Wag's were. When I stripped the Wag I took its wiring harnesses, and the power accessory harness is stand-alone, so it was truly plug and play. I simply connected two wires to the fuse panel (in pre-existing locations), installed a 30-amp circuit breaker, connected a grund wire, and everything worked!

Old non-power door:

Note the cross stamped into the door: the three holes surrounding it are where the power regulator bolts on. The lock motor bolts on at the rear edge. Here they are installed:

Connections were made to the Wagoneer's accessory harness:

Tucked the harness under the carpet and sent it to the other side for connection with the other door:

If you look at the fuse panel you can see where the connections must be made. Thankfully Jeep made provisions for those connections (I'd already connected the small red/white wire in this photo in the "BAT" terminal at the top of the panel, the heavier red wire was already there)

The purple wire for the power windows connects to the PWR ACCY terminal. The connector on the wire is shaped like the hole in the panel, so it fits right in. Adding a 30-amp circuit breaker to panle position 6 (next to where the wire plugs in) energizes this terminal.

After everything was wired and tested I installed the switches and inner door panel. The four-door panel has too many switches for my two-door, but I'll cope until I can get a two door switch panel...

To cover the hole from the manual window regulators I'm just gonna stick some round JEEP stickers over 'em...
