Project black sheep
My 92XJ build
AKA Project Black sheep
My project stated back in January when an online random bench racing session with one of my friends lead me to a 92 XJ on craigslist. I drove out later that week and bought the Jeep then took it wheeling that weekend on the ice and snow at Rausch Cheek offroad park in PA.
When I got the jeep it already had a Rubicon Express 2in spacer lift with the little add a leaf installed, and 5 really bald tires. Needless to say its first outing was quite fun
Day 2 of owner ship at RC on the trails
Bald tires + ice + big hill= stuck blown beads and 3 trucks to get me out
After that I lost 4lo in the t-case but was happy with what I did for the day. On the trailer ready to go home
Next up was to get some better tires on her. I had a set of 32x9.5 15s TSL super swampers from an older project so I got them mounted up on soft 8s and ripped off the flairs and cut a little bit where I was rubbing
Did a lot better on the better tires but really needed a front recovery point and to bring her all the way home after spending time a buddy’s place in PA
On the trailer headed to NY (stopped at a rest area)
Bumper off to get the new front tow hooks in
Nice new front recovery point
Mounted a small fire extinguisher in the back where the spare used to go
Hard mounted my CB to the dash
Next up was some fender clearance so I had room to stuff the tires
Then it was back on the trail for a test and she did great though the rear was showing signs of the dreaded sagging wagon syndrome
On the rocks at RC
I’ll have some photos tomorrow of my new JCR roof rack and terafelx shackles installed just ran out of day light today to take photos

Iron when you started this thread you mentioned the loss of 4Lo but never said what you found that caused that to happen. Did you solve that problem?
BTW nice build you got started there. Keep us up to date.

havent gotten to fix that yet I have a spare t-case sitting in the back of the jeep. One day I'll get it some place or get some one over that knows what they are doing and have it swapped out

It is pretty straight forward. I have not swapped them but have had several out to rebuild them and then put them back in. Not your particular year but in a '91, '96 and in my '90. All very similar. Have done the rebuilds on several TJs and older CJs as well. No real hard job except picking it up over your head whil laying on your back. Other than that they are pretty simple to fix inside. You will need a couple of heavy duty snap ring pliers and routine hand tools but that is it. You can do it.
