So first off, pics of the cart, ignore the Jeep parts for now.
And now the new front end parts.
So after I got off work I decided "I'm tired of not being able to see behind me when I backup" so I got some new reverse bulbs and installed them. Then I noticed that the battery acid that had leaked a few weeks ago in my cargo area is resurfacing. So I figured I would just tear out the back carpet. Big mess.
Carpet was soaked, smells like acid, paints peeling, huge pool in the passenger side rocker.
So the leak has not reared it's ugly head again..... yet. I know its coming from somewhere on the rear passenger side of the jeep because the drivers side rocker was bone dry. I drilled a small hole through the bottom of the rocker to let it drain, it accidentally poked out the exterior side of the rocker. Looks like I'll have to do a cut and fold some time, need to track this leak down first. Stupid El Nino weather, it was full of sediment and water and the rain has not let up yet.
I think the leak might have been coming from a badly sealed Taillight, the assemblies have this rubberish gasket around where they seal the body hole and it looks like the passenger side one was pushed in by something. When I had the lights off I attempted to remold the gasket of the passenger side light. Once I had it reformed I smeared dielectric grease all over the mating surface of the gasket and then wiped down the body where it sits. If that was the location of the leak it shouldn't leak there again.
Apparently I didn't prep well enough. Sanded the paint down, tack clothed the cargo area. The moment the roller started laying down bedliner it bubbled the paint and peeled up. If I tried to go over that layer it peeled even more.
I got a thick layer down eventually, I think I'll let it dry a few days and see if it peels. If it does I'll hit it with the grinder and use some self etching primer and then try again.
Man the Jeep smelled so bad this morning, I hope this **** airs out quick. On a happier note, it appears the bedliner did adhere somewhat, checked it with a knife this morning and no big chips are peeling up.
I spoke too soon, got home this afternoon and it had started peeling. Hit it with a flap disc and sanded it down to bare metal, and reapplied with spray cans this time. Strangely the cans give better coverage.
Looks good so far, I removed the back seat and seat belts and finished painting the section underneath. Then I cleaned and put all my trim back in. I'm gonna fill in where the backseat was and build a level floor.
