Default Project Jeeves - 2000 XJ Sport

Hey guys, first-time XJ owner here so wanted to start the build thread to document the transformation. It is bone stock 2000 Sport bought from a little dealership in MD with 114K on it. Has some minimal surface rust, but nothing too crazy. I plan on cleaning her up a bit and adding a lift, wheels, brake conversion, hitch, new headliner, and some more goodies along the way (in nor particular order). I have alot to learn from this forum and am looking forward to getting her dirty!

Here are some pics as she sits now:

clean jeep man. welcome to the addiction. how big you gonna go with it? also, be warry of the potential for a faulty head design know to jeeps of the 2000-01 era. there is a stamp on the driver side of the block, right between cyl 3 and 4 just visible outside of the head. if it says 0331 then id be careful to make sure its been well maintained and that there is no oil/coolant contamination.. idk, they are prone to issue and i guess id want to know myself.. good luck..

also, what rear axle does it have? post a pic of the cover if not sure

Thanks man, thinking about going around 3.5" of lift at first since it will be my DD...wasn't sure if 4.5 will be too much or not, but i figured I can always go "up" if needed. Any suggestions?

I have actually read about the 0331 head issue - gonna be checking that tonight for sure. The Jeep has been well maintained, but gonna cross my fingers either way...not trying to mess with that mess!

Front axle is a Dana30 and the rear is a Chrysler 8.25".

Nice rig btw!

Last night I decided it was finally time to get rid of my saggy headliner. I ordered some fabric that I liked and got some of the materials together and began taking it apart.

As you can see the previous owner used tacks to hold it up as a temporary/permanent solution...which in all honesty didn't look THAT bad, but I wanted it done right.

Took about 40 minutes to remove all the trim, oh s**t bars, seat belts, etc, but got the headliner out in one piece.

That was great and all, but it looks like I have some rust to deal with. Thinking about cleaning it up with a brush and using a combo of POR15 and herculiner to fix it, but not entirely sure right now. Any suggestions?

Default Headliner Fix

Been a while since I updated this build thread, but headliner was a success and didn't turn out all that bad.

And here is the finished product. Not bad for less than $80.

New Curt hitch went on the other day. Used JCR's rear nutstrips with plenty of PB blaster ahead of time.

Added a leaf spring helper kit to my saggy worn out leafs as a temporary fix until my Rusty's 3" lift comes in. Overall very easy to install and netted roughly 2.25" - more importantly it lifted the saggy butt. Doesn't ride too bad either. Grabbed the idea from this thread.

Default New Front Brak Pads and Rotors

Been a while since I posted some updates, so here it goes...

Installed new front brake pads and rotors (
PowerStop Evolution Kit PowerStop Evolution Kit
)

Slapped on some front tow hook brackets from custom 4x4 fab

Herculined the rusty roof

Replaced the tired stock headlights with the
Rampage Halogen Kit and Putco Harness Rampage Halogen Kit and Putco Harness
(one of the best upgrades I've done so far)

Had a front axel u-joint go bad on me so replaced both front u-joints and replaced the hubs with some new Timkens while I was there.

Bought some Ravine wheels off Craigslist and wrapped them in some new BFG AT T/A K02s...then took it on a wheeling/camping trip.

Default Broken Rear Exhaust Hanger

So this happened today. Guess it was only a matter of time before that rusted out piece snapped off. Picked up a universal hanger from Advanced Auto and gonna replace it later today.

Default Peters Mill Run OHV Trail & Camping

This past weekend had the opportunity to head out to Edinburg, Virginia to run the Peters Mill Run trail and do a little camping. This was the second time I have run this trail, but the first time when it was rainy and muddy. All in all its a pretty easy trail, but fun for a quick getaway.
