The Mazda is pretty fun, although I'll be getting rid of it sometime soon.

Dug this out of the garage, it's from a different jeep I had for a short time. I am planning on cleaning it up and possibly putting it on the black jeep or just selling it. I have a winch but I had planned on using that for the red jeep but maybe I'll throw the winch and bumper on the black jeep for now.

 

do me a favor and let me know what you ask for the mazda when the time comes I'm not ready to buy just yet but "sometime soon" applies for me too.

is that bumper home made?

 

I don't think it's homemade but I have no way to tell besides searching the internet for it. I don't love the design so I may modify it just for fun. We'll see.

 

Quick update- I sold the bumper in the above posts. The Mazdaspeed is for sale. The black jeep will be for sale soon ish. The Scottsdale is sold, as is the subaru. Wife now drives a 2015 Tacoma double cab 6 speed while I drive the black jeep. Motorcycle is sold. I will hopefully be starting to work on the red jeep soon, on that note, Today I ordered: 5 33x12.5x15 Cooper discovere S/T Maxx tires and 5 15x8 3.75bs AR23 black wheels. These are just generic pics from the internet, will update when I get them delivered.

 

Thought I'd post a couple pics of the small garage/shop I have to work with. I got it cleaned up and decently organized in preparation for the red 98 to live in for awhile. I put the black 99 in there to show scale. The rear bumper is almost touching the back wall, and the passenger side is about a foot away from the side wall. It is pretty small but it beats working outside. I hope to get the red jeep out of its storage unit this weekend while home for the Easter holiday.

 

Drove all night, slept a couple hours, and headed over to the storage unit. I put the tires on from the black 99, installed a fresh battery, and it started instantly, which was nice. Put it outside for a few minutes to idle and cleaned out the rest of the unit. I'll be renting a uhaul trailer Monday to tow it home. It looks pretty rough all dusty after sitting for nearly 3 years but that is easily changed.
I also stopped by my local welding shop and picked up a little something.

 

Man... tight quarters indeed!

 

I loaded up the jeep monday and brought it to my parents shop to stay for the afternoon while I went to my in-laws to finish packing and eat dinner. I left the jeep looking like this (minus the tacoma)



Then a couple hours later my parents called and said I should come back.
Something is not right...



Oh yes, maybe this is why it looks different. The wind was pretty wild yesterday apparently.



No big deal, just rolled it over and put it back with ratchet straps holding it to the jeep. It will get staked down at some point.

Then I loaded up and left at about 2015 (815pm), got home at about 0345am. Stared at this for a long time, except it was dark. Averaged 11mpg with the Tacoma.


Here it is at home this morning getting ready to transfer tires back to the black jeep.


And here is the latest tool I bought for the jeep, I can't wait to see how much better it is than my previous chinese junk welder.

I'm hoping to set it up this week/ weekend. I'll try to post some initial impressions. Maybe a couple welds if they aren't to awful. It will be nice to switch from under powered flux core to gas and plenty of power. I'm going to make an adapter plug for my dryer which is in the garage so I can use the 220 option. I have some 10/3 cable and also some 6/3 cable that I'll probably use to make an extension cord so I have plenty of length so I can weld outside or at least near the garage door.

 

Sounds good. The switch from flux core to gas is amazing haha

 

My wheels and tires were delivered today! I'm working late so at dinner time I ran home for a minute to get them out of the driveway and rolled a couple over to the now jealous black jeep. The wheel/tire combo look great to me. I don't see very many people running these tires on Cherokees, probably because they are heavy and not as cool looking as a KM2 or MTR but I think they will last better. (and, lets face it, I'm basically a poser, I won't see as much off road use as I would want to justify a true MT) And usually I only see these wheels in chrome, but I like black and they were cheap and light. I think I am at about 80lbs per wheel and tire. Too bad I won't be able to test them out for a month or more.


TL;DR - got my wheels and tires delivered. I like them.
