Pics of the XJ rollover, new 91 MJ project
Some pics of my 96 XJ I rolled over a few months ago.
Bought my 1st MJ saturday, 1991 4.0 automatic 2wd Metric Ton D44 207k miles. Drove it a 120 mile trip on the interstate home without missing a beat. There is no rust on the truck but one spot on the drivers side rocker panel, some fading paint but a very straight and solid MJ.
I bought this truck off of comancheclub classifieds and have always wanted an MJ. Since there is no saving the XJ because of the rollover and rust issues it is going to be a donor for the project. My plans are to take the AX-15 and NP 231 t-case out and swap it in the MJ for a four wheel drive conversion as well as the 5 speed. I also want to rust prevent the floors and whole underneath of the truck while I have it apart. As of now I just need to wait for a break in the weather and collect some parts like a D-30 with 3:55 gears etc. Once I get that squared away I plan on getting it painted with 3 or 4 inches of lift and a locker in the rear. I plan on using it for my DD and mild offroad and building another MJ or XJ for offroad. Today I pulled it the garage for a tune up, oil change, shot some paint on the rocker, cold air intake, and my outlaw 2's with 30" mud tires and that is how it sits. Will post plenty of pics when I get the project rolling.

Sorry for your xj, but that mj looks sweet. Those puppies are hard to find. We need more "eye candy" of the mj.

Like everyone else said sucks that you rolled over your XJ but that comanche sure does look like one hell of a truck to start off with. If i were you i would get in the passenger seat and start kicking the crap out of the roof just to pop it out a bit. Make it a nice trail beater or something along those lines. Just my .02 cents.

I sold the lift and tires off my XJ. But I saved the longarms and the axles with 4:56's and lockers for my next one. I plan on going bigger with 35's, then maybe looking for a 9" and a 44. The MJ really is a nice truck to start with, but I'm going to build another XJ for wheeling most likely. The XJ wasn't that nice I patched the uniframe 2 times because it broke from rust so it wasn't a total loss.

I would have chopped the top and caged it.. then beat it to an inch of its life if it was my rig
Welcome to the darkside of owning a MJ. As for them being rare... I have a couple of them

Steve, was that black XJ you rolled ever in Oak Harbor, Wa.? I saw one that sold off the Lemon Lot at our Navy Exchange that looked identical to that one. I almost bought it myself.

No this jeep was always in PA, it was bone stock when I got it. I'm saving the drivetrain for my MJ and the axles with the gears and lockers for my next xj or mj. Thats why I didn't take it out and "beat it".
