It's a lot. Let me put it this way, I would not be remotely scared of 8psi. Most people don't designate between auto/manual but either way just aim high and shoot for my current 12.7 time. I love being beat, gives me a reason to try harder.

Are you saying you wouldn't be scared to run 8psi on the stock motor? Or were you implying that I was challenging you, I only said fastest 5 speed because I haven't seen a #race jeep that was a 5speed yet, that's all I meant by that. Although I'm sure I wouldn't be to far behind with a good working set up with forced induction

its been almost a year since I touched this thread. Im still alive, just getting real busy. busy with work and other projects.
the current upgrade path is im planning on getting rid of the AW4 and going to an older a998 like the older jeeps have with the 3 speed auto. then finally get a torque converter and possibly some gearing. we'll use the drivetrain to reset my records and then ill finally start focusing on making some real power. |
Awesome. Did you do any dyno runs to see what kind of power you're making? And do you plan on keeping the 4.0 with just bolt ons or are you planning a swap? (2JZ Xj would get some great views on YouTube I bet! Or Coyote swap since everyone does LS swaps)

Ive made some pulls in my 4wd jeep. very similar build. made about 180rwhp. this jeep should make more, as it has better exhaust, tune and less parasitic drag. but the motor does have a lot more miles, so that could be a factor.
first step was weight and traction. now its drivetrain and gearing. next will be power. I plan on keeping the I6 and right now im planning a 4.7 but its not set in stone. if I eventually need more pistons I already have a plan, and it includes staying with a mopar powerplant. |
180 rwhp? I hear it was about 130 rwhp stock! I wonder what your bhp is!

out of curiosity. how did you "massage" your sliders to line up? Because one of the leaves on both sides insist on fanning out and kissing the side of my sliders. beginning to think my spring perches were welded to close together from the factory and causing this, considering I had to pull the axle to one side and then push the spring in with my foot to get it in.

I've tried that. I got almost 140lbs on them. I was able to get the driver side to stop rubbing, passenger side was no bueno.

I run a mono leaf. so I never ran into that issue.

You could try adding extra spring clamps.

Hopefully gonna have some updates coming soon. Gonna get the hydraulic 3 speed built and put in and try for even better times. The 4wd jeep has been getting attention as well. My import drag car has been taking my time up but we'll get the jeep back better than ever for next season which mean more build updates.
