today i replaced my broken alternator and idler pully. the idler pully was trashed...

bearings are missing, and you can see the bearings...also made some horrible noises. glad its gone

heres my broken alternator and it was more broken then i thought.

how would it just break like that?

also took some more of the A/C system out.
i am holding a piece of the hose i hammered flat and folded over to block off the compressor and keep dirt out. compressors still good.

well i got the new alt and pulley in...its soo quiet now. i like it. tomorow im probably going to pick up some hella 500s for the empty front bumper.

so, im getting a deal on some ironman4x4 adjustable upper and lower control arms and adjustable track bar. cant wait, then im gonna go to a 4x4 store (cause i cant seem to find any 3/4 inch spacers for under $30 online) and get some 3/4 inch spacers. hopefully it will be leveled out. then im gonna try apply for a couple jobs, see if i get lucky, and make some money so i can finally get some new shoes for it...maybe

this fixed all of the rattling that was going on, and made me very happy.

after that i got an old CB radio my grandfather had, and i put that in...it was a rail PITA to find somewhere that was out of the way...so i compromised and put it on the armrest...not the best idea if you like your funnybone.

i then ran around with a roof magnet antenna but after that fell off many times from hitting trees, i decided to make something alittle bit more permanant.
i went to Radio shack and got some required materials, like a 20 ft cable, and a antenna.

now atleast when it hits off all the trees it doesnt fall off!

then i cheaply made a cold air intake out of a 6 inch piece of 3 inch tubing, a spectre cone filter, and a wall mounted shelf holder thing all bent up.
i drilled a hole in the shelf wall mount, and bent it up to hold the filter up and keep it from bouncing around. i then drilled two holes in the metal pipe for the vacuum lines, and stuck the filter on there. i later realized if i went through a deep puddle, the fans would still spray the filter with water (which is what i was trying to avoid because the stock intake sucks in water) so i spent a few hours taking apart an old trashed microwave for the high voltage transformer (to make a jacobs ladder) and i used the sheet metal to make a heat shield/water shield. not the prettiest but it works really well!

and that pretty much brings you up to date on all the major stuff ive done.

Dude where did you get that CB??? did it come with the jeep? if soo i got mine from my grandpa too XD

well, as you can tell its been paused. i lost the crappy job i had, but im training for a new job this week sometime at advanced auto parts!! real excited to get that 20% discount! haha. hopefully my jeep will have some new parts soon enough, probably 3 weeks or a month before it gets more attention. advanced is only gonna be a part time job, and im going to school full time so theres not much time left over.

havent done anything to the jeep for a while. over the last few days its been under the knife getting rid of an large oil leak i had, and a new brake system...for the most part.

the oil leak i had was from where the oil filter mount mounts to the block. the rubber oring is an easy enough fix, but getting to the mount is the hard part. a ratchet doesnt fit with a socket, and i didnt have a 6 point wrench to break the lock tight used from the factory.

heres a picture of a giant oil leak making everything under the filter oily...

heres where i took out a bolt to the motor mount to get a socket in. luckily i didnt need a t60 bit to get the bolt out!

heres after i cleaned the mount up kinda....and got it back together.

next i took on the small project that turned into a long, frustrating project. fixing my brakes. my brakes have been really bad for quite a while, they would just randomly go to the floor...and not stop me. that was scary. i kept the ABS relay and fuse out after i realized the abs system sucked giant donkey ......yea. so i read up on http://www.go.jeep-xj.info/ that a 99-04 grand cherokee brake booster and master cylinder will fit with slight modification. but for some reason when i went to a u-pull it i only could find a 93 grand cherokee. and i had a big brain fart and pulled that one off. paid 40$ for that and a non abs distribution block put taht mastercyl on and forgot to bleed it...got ticked off..then went to a big junkyard in new jersey and paid 50$ for a 00 grand cherokee master cylinder/brake booster. i figure if a part fails, why not make it better then new? so i basically followed this, added 2 big *** washers between the GC master cyl and the firewall to get the brake pedal down farther. hooked up the distribution block after running a new brake line. then cut and flared the proper fittings and flares. (one good thing about working at a auto parts store is you get access to all the loaner tools you ever need)
this is the flaring tool

the biggest problem i had was bending the pinch seam out of the way for the new booster to fit. i already hooked up the lines so it was kinda tough to get into it.

bending the pinch seam.

after that, everythign was just bolt up. my brake switch was one for abs, therefore i had no drilling/filing to do, just space it out and bolt it in!!! easy...once you have all the right brake line fittings and brake lines that dont break when you bend them. here is the master cylinder installed.

i also took the rear drums off to find the right rear wheel cylinder was leaky (could have been causing the soft pedal) so i took another trip to advance, got new wheel cylinders and hardware kits to make the rear brakes like new! while doing the right rear, i realized how much i hate drum brakes all over again. why is everything inside so ridiculously complicated? i need a different axle, a welder, and a disk brake conversion for the rear.

hardware kit installed and now the ebrake even works again!!!!

heres my working area

and heres the old master cylinders/brake boosters.

gonna be making add a leafs with those extra springs for my buddies xj he just picked up.

anyway i highly belive that "the simpler the better" and heres a comparison of the old brake system and all of its ridiculous hoses and wires and unnecessary stuff.

and the new system in all of its pure simplicity!

this swap is highly recommended to anybody with 2 thumbs, some basic hand tools, and a couple hours to kill. just make sure you get all the right brake line fittings and bleed the master cylinder before you hook it up to the system! before this, even with just 235/75s for tires, i never really could lock up the brakes, and on the highway, yea forget about stopping fast...now the brakes feel like my brothers 2001 golf gti! its an insane swap. definitely worth all of the frustration. but i tell you something...the jeep sat for about 4 days while i drove back and forth to school and work...in a minivan. boy did i miss driving my xj!

overall, i paid 50$ for the master cylinder out of a 2000 wj with 75,000 miles. 15$s in brake lines/fittings and a non abs distribution block from a u pull it, and about 50$ for fixing up the rear brakes. oh and about 12$ in brake fluid (i have a hard time bleeding brakes properly).

total is about $127 and highly worth it considering i no longer fear yellow lights, little kids, or animals running out infront of me, or stopping because of a not at all uncommon idiot driver infront of me!

next upgrade to the brake/steering system will most likley be a wj knuckle swap for the upgraded disks/2 piston calipers and upgraded high steer system. the only part other then the wj stuff is this http://www.4wd.com/productdetails.as...mpaign=product

that spaces the wheel bearings another 1/4 inch out so the calipers line up with the new rotors perfectly.

i also have to make a write up of how to add some cool brake lights for all of you guys who dont have a factory 3rd brake light. that will be soon enough when i go out and snap some pictures!

alright. heres a picture or two of my rear brake lights. i picked up strips of red sticky back LED red lights from a auto parts store. its fairly easy. all you need to do is run the wires down the right or left pillar in the rear (just a black and red wire) at the back of either of the brake lights, cut (or use a crimp type splice) to attach to the black and brake light wire (not tail light). so basically look for the wire that gets 12 volts to the light when the brake peddle is pressed. once you got them wires soldered and heat shrunk or crimped all good, just wire the two led strips in parallel and push them in the weather molding around the rear window on the inside (i will try and get a write up soon). theres no need to stick it to anything as long as you make sure its pretty secure.

heres a couple pictures of it and it is fairly easy

yes i know my jeep sticker is way off center

older pic

older pic
they are pretty bright and one of my favorite things ive done so far.

as far as updates, im getting some lower adjustable control arms, upper adjustable control arms, and an adjustable track bar very soon. also hopefully new brake lines so i can feel good about flexing out the front end. on the save up list first comes hopefully some rough contry quick discos for the front, and some either 1 inch or 1.5 inch spacers for the front in addition to the brake lines. hopefully ill have all that within a month (some stuff is a xmas gift)

i know i dont have much of a following haha but heres a small update. ordered some stuff. made a deal with my dad and grandmom for xmas. (thats right im 20 an still get xmas gifts, if i ever have kids, they will too haha) split the cost of those lower control arms, upper control arms and track bar with my dad, and my grandmom and aunt are getting me purple crown 5 layer brake lines for 4-6 inch lift off quadratec, 1-1/4 inch teraflex coil spacers off quadratec and rough country's sway bar disconnect links. so ill have some updates after xmas

so my jeep will be sitting just over 4 inches of lift, with mean a$$ control arms and track bar from ironman4x4fab...by the way, he is the nicest and best guy to deal with. if you guys are looking for a track bar or control arms, i would definitely give him a call.

then ill be looking for either new tires (which i only really need for wheelin and looks cause my 235s still have some tread) or a new steering set up (which i really need...i hate bump steer and wandering...and just a tid bit of death wobble cause i cant align it). i havent bought much myself yet cause school books and tools, gas and food cost quite alot as it seems...
