My 2000 XJ Sport Build BOB (Black On Black)

2 Attachment(s)
So after reading everyone's Jeep build I decided on my own once I got my 2000 XJ. I bought it a few months ago for 2k and it only had 101k miles on it. It was kept out side because there was a ton of rust showing on the roof and the rear door. A few of my buddies with Wranglers went down to the Pine Barrons and of course my stock XJ was the only one to get stuck. Now it is time to change that. Here is my start. The only thing I had added was on OR FAB front bumper. I am getting it back from getting painted today so I cant wait to see it.

whidbeyislandxj 05-16-2012 01:35 PM

I'm gonna follow this, I have a 1999 black sport. I just started a build page last week.

kentuckyscott 05-16-2012 02:48 PM

Gonna follow this too. Mine looked exactly like yours when I began.....see my pictures. Done a few things to it since the last picture shown...will get some more updated on in there. Good luck, can't wait to see where this goes.

So I got my truck back this morning and it looks AWESOME! The pictures do not do it justice. The only problem is the guy that pained it for me called me and told me about the rust spot behind the passenger side rear but I didn't think it was that big. Some of it will get cut away when I open up my fenders for 33" tires but not all of it.

I was going to get the or fab rear bumper but now I think I may just put my bumper covers back on to hid this, but I don't want the spot to get any bigger. Any suggestions?

Any way put a call into RC to get a 4.5" lift

Has any one purchased the RCX rims from RC? Much better pricing then Cragar.
And am going to put a call into Quadratec to get the remaining items since I am loaded up on gift cards from there.

bruinfan1077 05-21-2012 08:27 PM

Man I hate people that don't call you back. I have been trying to order my lift from Rough Country for 5 days now. Called Grimus every day since last Tuesday (minus Sat and Sun)and he still hasn't returned my call. If I can't even get a call back I can't imagine what the response will be after I have given them my money.

stealthcherokee 05-21-2012 10:37 PM

So yesterday I did my radio install. I put in a Kenwood Excelon series unit . This thing rocks I can play my music off of my iphone via bluetooth. Can do the same with Pandora. Sound quality is great with the factory speakers Although I hope to upgrade the rest of that later. It also had hand free talk with a mounted mic her are a couple of pics.

I cant wait till I get to get to the fun stuff this weekend. Hopefully if everything comes in before that. Just worried about my drive shaft and sye. Have to call on that tomorrow as well.

Quick Cherokee forum question... How do people upload more then 2 pictures? Is it because I am new and have limitations?

bruinfan1077 05-24-2012 08:46 AM

So I am pretty bummed right now just found out my drive shaft and SYE are not going to make it in time for the weekend :brickwall:

Oh well I wouldn't have been able to get my tires on anyway look like I will have to work on some other mods instead this weekend. So here is a list of mods that I am planning to make soon

4.5" x series lift from RC
15 x 8 Cragar Soft 8 rims black with black lug nuts and 33" Mickey MTZs
adams drive shaft and sye
Or Fab rear bumper (already have the front or fab bump)
Add front hop and light mount plus lights to my front bumper
cut rear quarter panels fold and weld closed
spectre cowl snorkel
clear turn signals in front
784 fuel injectors

I was hoping to work top to bottom on that list looks like it will have to be bottom to top.
night shade rear lights

I'm gonna follow this thread too! I'm fifteen, and if anyone can give me any tips for mine I'd appreciate it! They should have mobile updates for build threads. :D I wouldn't have a problem reading! Can't wait to see what your Jeep looks like when it's done. :)

Well the first thing I can tell you Thomas is that if you are a jeep owner then you are never "done" There is always something you can do to it. But I know what you mean:) Thanks for following.

I am doing an adams drive shaft and sye. That is the part I am waiting for.

My brother is going to be helping me this weekend coming up but his wife is due any day with their first. I might be losing my helper. We will see.

yeah I know but the paint was peeling so bad I had to do something about it and I dod not have faith in myself for the spray paint can paint job. My brother got his jeep painted by the same guy and he offered me a deal I couldn't refuse.

bruinfan1077 05-29-2012 01:39 PM

So I did some work this weekend on the jeep. I cut ad folded up the two rear quarter panels, I did the dodge neon fuel injector upgrade and I added the spectra cowl snorkel upgrade. Everything went great once I got my head out of my butt. It was so hot and I had 20 things to do around the house before I started working on my jeep by the time I was done I thought I had a POS product from Spectra. But after going out and looking at it the next day, I realized that I had put the rubber couplers on the wrong way making the whole assembly sit way to high for the hood to close. Once I swaped them around it works and looks great.

Ha ha I had the same deal, they sprayed half of my pass head light and the corner of my windshield, but the paint wasn't horrable just the prep work... $700

bruinfan1077 05-30-2012 05:21 PM

Wow that was scary. My truck almost caught on fire today because I am dumb. After cutting the rust off of my rear quarter and folding it up the two ends did not meet. So I welded a piece in but didn't think enough to remove the carpet on the top side. Sparks flew into the cabin and I obviously had a lot of smoke. Thankfully one of the guys at my work got my attention before it was too late. That was scary.

Life with kids got in the way of getting anything done on my jeep as planned/promised to myself. Needless to say that with a lot of patience, a lot of swearing and a lot of looking at BotakBeng's build page:
https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f46/pr...-99-xj-128806/
I thought I was done after bleeding the brakes. But when I jumped in and fired it upmy brake peddle went right to the floor. From what my more experienced friends tell me I blew my master cylinder when bleeding the brakes. So although she is not operational until (hopefully) next week she sure does look mean. I was going to post pictures as I went a long but honestly BotakBeng's pictures (pages 3-5) are so much better. If I was Rough Country I would just send his link as instructions instead of theirs as his are much more in depth.

So I installed my hi lift today. Didn't want it binding up on me so I mounted it under my seat. Pretty simple to do. I just banged down my center hump a little and the. I used the previous jack screw hole to hold it steady. I also got my brakes fixed turns out that I just suck at bleeding brakes

robsgotit 10-12-2012 08:39 AM

I like it a lot but it is loud. I plan on taking the interior apart and dynamating everything to try and lessen not only the cowl intake but the road noise too.
