Alright, ive been thinking about going ahead and buying a SYE and driveshaft to have on hand before the lift. I really dont want to do a hack n tap, id rather get the SYE from rugged ridge or another brand like that. if i do end up going this route and i am still able to use a stock XJ front driveshaft? I always thought i could, but for some reason a friend is convinced that the front DS will only fit on the hack n tap sye. could anyone clear this up for me?
Front driveshafts will work either way. It's just how long it needs to be is the factor. On my lift with the 4.5 inch I'm going to probably need about a 33.5 inch CV drive shaft. I would say buy the SYE now and measure for the drive shaft after you do your lift. I am working with rocksolidor.com and he's sold me everything, that's how I know the length of mine.
Well another day, another problem. The rear cargo hatch door wouldn't open. I found a thread on here about how to fix that. So I'll tackle that this weekend
got the nozzles on order. Also seems like my brakes are very stiff, the pedal is hard to push down. I'm thinking it might be the brake booster, but the check valve is good, and so is the vaccum line. But that's the only thing I could think of that would hinder braking performance and make the pedal hard
Installed the new new lift gates for the hatch, simple install, took about 5 minutes. Ordered a new brake booster, waiting for that to come in. Can't wait to buy a lift and wheels but I want to make sure everything gets fixed before i spend the money on the lift
Got around to fixing the hatch handle also. Just had to take the panel off and take slack out of a bolt. Pretty easy, now I don't have to cuss trying to open the hatxg
When I did the bastard pack on my rear lift I installed the rugged ridge sye. I started with the front shaft from my jeep just to get it driving but I ended up ruining the shaft. Too long for it and it was right at the end of the splines and after driving I couldn't get it to collapse back in. Keep an eye out for a zj front shaft which worked prefect.

I dont recall a specific year. I got mine from a junkyard, i just said I need a front zj shaft. Think it was labeled 96 or 97. And no, Ive got the 8.25 in both my cherokees.

i picked up a Zj driveshaft yesterday at the junkyard, also found a pair of coil spring spacers in the trunck, so i grabbed those, and then got some roof rack cross supports off an xj. scored all of that for 20$. im pretty happy about that. i went home and measured out the drive shaft, its about 33" long. how much is yours lifted? i have a feeling that the zj driveshaft might be too long for me.
4.5 to 5 in the back. Made a bastard pack after a buddy gave me a set of brand new blazer springs he was going to toss. But for 20 bucks it wont hurt to have in case you end up with more lift then you thought. 2-3 inch lift youll probably be fine with a stock xj front shaft.
