Default JEEP BUILD LOok for some good info

So I just got a 98 Jeep Cherokee four door 4.0 auto trans for $600 and am looking to make a good trail rig. that be said I noticed that i had a odd idle and so i did a compression test found that my cylinders went

1# 130PSI
2# 145PSI
3# 70PSI
4# 75PSI
5# 140PSI
6# 145PSI

so I"m looking for a blow motor to rebuild so i can keep driving the jeep tell then, called my parts guys asked for a Hot cam and a stroke kit. They told me that you can't put a hot cam / race cam in the 98s 4.0, and there isn't a stroke kit on the market either for that year of jeep xj. Which this can't be true.

so i guess for my build I'm starting with the motor rebuild and am looking for anyone's input on how to get more power out of the 4.0 my idea is if i'm going to rebuild it why not make some more Hps. after moter will move on to other things but i feel this is / should be my number one thing to look at thanks for reading and also thanks for any input

You need to find another parts guy bud... Stroker kits and cams are available for all years of the 4.0s, and welcome to the forum

Swapping in a V8 will cost substantially more than a stroker, and will require alot more skill/time for a proper install. Google on over to Novak to get an idea of what all is needed for a motor swap. They sell alot of the adapters required for install. As far as stroker kits i didnt use a pre done kit. Ive pieced mine together over time. Its honestly cost a touch more than most kits (im about 950 in with no crank or cam kit yet) but my build should create a decent amount of power over your run of the mill kits.
