Link to a video with some trail 16 action. Sorry the videos kinda suck. I'm no professional and we only get the parts where the whole crew has to stop. I'll try to see if I can put some videos together of other trails or other parts of trails.

Yeah they're on YouTube. The club channel is Clemson Offroad Club and my personal one is The Green Dumpster

What do ya'll think would be the best solution? Junkyard motor reseal and swap in, junkyard motor rebuild keeping stock displacement and swap in, or reman motor?

I'd rebuild a junkyard 4.0 stock if you didn't have any friends with a part out you can take and trust more.

What's causing you to go thru motors?

Good question, wish I could answer it. I haven't been skimping or half doing it, so I don't know what's causing the issues I'm having. I don't know enough about exactly how things work to tell you the cause of my issues. For now I'm just going to go back stock and hope that stock=reliable.

Man, hate to hear that. I know these motors are reliable in stock form and should last thousands of miles. Read thru your whole build. I'm looking into possibly getting into an XJ.

How much rev limiter does this thing see!? Haha - jk. Your wheeling style seems smooth and controlled. Hope you get it all worked out. Very curious to know the cause of the 4.6's failure. Spun bearing perhaps? Broken piston skirt?

The theory is a timing issue making too much heat and melting at least one piston. I never heard any pinging or anything like that so I'm not super on board with that theory personally. A compression and leak down test would tell more of the story with a bore scope down the problem cylinders. It definitely wasn't a spun bearing. If still drives fine, just a ton of blow by. The stroker actually never reached rev limiter. In an automatic xj without a first gear lock out it takes ALOT of wheel speed to get to limiter

Probably wouldnt be a bad idea to get the injectors flow tested to see if you got some lazy ones. That could definitely cause a melted piston. Same if you have an injector firing too much, it would wipe out the ring.
