Hmm if you don't like that look into Subthump. They made a quality 3/4" MDF box for a 10" sub that goes behind the rear panel at the cubby hole (you cut the hole out and the sub sits flush with the panel).

I don't think I could fit it even if I wanted to, I'm scared this one won't fit with the cage. It's definitely going to be tight.
Got new seat heaters in, then new $20 seat covers for the new seats, and finally man is that a tight fit... it fits though. I think I may just get a tube of construction adhesive and squirt a bunch in there to hold the box in there. If I can get the trim panel back out with the sub box in there may use some bolts too.
I can tell it would fit, the box you have actually sticks out further. The question would be can you wrestle the box into the rear well behind the panel with the cage in the way being such a snug fit. I hope you like the one you got but something to think about if you want to go bigger.

The volume on that box is actually .08 cubic feet smaller and I had a hard time finding an 8" sub with the rating I wanted which would be decently happy in the .4 cubic feet this box provides. I know a friend who has a lower powered 8" in his 4Runner in the factory box and it seems to fill in the low end enough for me. I should be getting the sub on Saturday so we'll see how it sounds then I guess
So based off XJlimitedx99's idea I'm going to wire my electric fan to a override switch in my factory PDC. The plan is to switch the factory circuit to one of the mini relays and use the factory relay slot for the override relay. The reason for this is I have found time delay relays for a normal relay slot and plan to add one in at a later date.
Ayyyy glad to see you found some inspiration in my thread. I finally took the time to read through your build. Impressive how much work you've done while being in high school/college. Looks like you're starting to get into the good stuff.

I took apart another box a little while ago and I'm installing a Cherokee PDC in a 4Runner as an auxiliary fuse box for a friend. Starting that project today.
I've been using a Boss Diablo 10" sub with pillow filler (audio trick) for 8 or so years now and it hits very well. Pillow filler mimics the effect of having more space than a box really has.
The sub came in today and I think it looks pretty good. I was hoping to just be able to glue the box to the quarter panel, but I can't get them in together, so I think I may go to harbor freight and get a nutsert tool then put some nutserts in the quarter panel trim. I feel like I should put something between the panel and the sub to keep rattles and such down. Also, need to squirt some rtv or something in the hole for the speaker wire because i can hear it leaking a little around the wires even with the grommet.
So I put new PCV and CCV in the valve cover today because it had 2 PCV valves for some reason and I think it may have been building crank case pressure and pushing oil out the rear main. Also, the coolant reservior is empty so that's concerning. Doesn't appear to have any coolant in the oil and it hasn't been misfiring or had any coolant smell to the exhaust so I'm not sure what's going on. I'm going to be very unhappy if somehow the motor that is freshly built with no overheating has a blown headgasket again. I have the absolute worst luck with this Cherokee and cooling system stuff.

I always did like those. Just cause they are made for the Jeep. I don't own one.
As a matter of fact I just picked up a spare tire sub. No pictures yet. Needs to be refoamed.
The Harbor Freight nutsert tool, I call them rivnuts, is not a bad little tool.
When I first discovered rivnuts I bought that to play with. Liked the concept and bought the Astro 1442.
Funny thing is after I bought the Astro I ran across a situation where I wanted to use rivnuts but the Astro was to big.
HF was small enough to get in there to do the job. LOL.
Know squat about installing stereo stuff but some camper/window type foam strips sound like a good idea between the panel and sub.
When I read about you wanting to squirt RTV in there the first thing that popped into my head was dielectric grease.
Figure it will seal it up but can be cleaned out if need be very easy.
I don't know about you but I have commitment issues. MLOL.
found these thingies at Lowe's and I heated them up with a heat gun and pushed them into the plastic. Figured it would take more for these to pull out than the rivnuts. And they were cheap. Went to the junkyard today and got a spare 8.25 shaft and some more dana 30 shafts.
Did a compression test on the Cherokee motor because I wanted to and figured it would give me a chance to look at the spark plugs (not that I'm any good at reading them) but right at 130 psi on all cylinders which to me sounds a little low, but it's consistent. not really sure what these mean, but looked a little odd to me
