So I sold my 5 speed XJ. I was able to start looking for another Cherokee. I have always wanted a purple one. I don't know why, don't ask.
Found this one on Craigslist in next county over. Was asking for 1200. Talked him down to $900, and made a deposit.
Last night we went and picked it up. Drove it home. Pretty good ride.
231k miles on it. 4.0/aw4/231 with d30/8.25
More details to come later.

There's rust on the driver's side rocker, the previous owner riveted aluminum sheet on it to pass inspection. Look like I ll have to redo it and do a proper rocker replacement.
There's also small portion of the drivers floor rust. Will get around to doing it too.
It idles rough but runs ok-ok. The trans run good and strong.
First plan of attack is to disassemble the throttle body and clean everything. Check if the idle air control is functioning properly. Then refresh all engine sensor ground locations.
Second plan of attack is to take the valve cover off and have the engine run. See if any rods are bent. (I still would be taking the cover regardless anyway because the gasket need replacing).
I went to the junkyard today and picked up a 99+ intake manifold and a valve cover. Gonna clean them up and paint it. I tried to find a fuel rail but didn't find one in good condition.

So my plans for this jeep is make it my daily driver (I sold my 5 speed and now I need one again).
-3.5 inch lift with 3 link long arms
-33x10.50 tires.
-Dana 44 front and rear swap with 4.30 gearing. The rear ll be LSD and the front probably would be locked
-Rubicon NV241-OR transfer case swap
I already ordered an ARES's FAB front evolution bumper with a custom hoop welded on it.

Picked up a bunch of stuff last weekend...
Stock leaf packs with 2" RockKrawler AAL, with 1.5/2.5 adjustable shackles.
RockKrawler's bombproof double shear track bar
RockKrawler's 3 link long arms
I think I kinda want to try out other 3 link kits out there, so I may be selling the long arms. Haven't decided yet.

From looks of it, the jeep may have factory side steps that one day rusted off. Haha
The old mounts for it are still on the jeep. Doesn't bother me for now so I ll leave it be.
Also noticed that it probably had an aftermarket alarm system or something. There's a horn screwed on the fender and this weird thing that's bolted to the side as well. They are gonna have to go.

Was poking around the jeep today and saw a couple of stuff that was perplexing and interesting.
Had a really thick washer under each bolt on the crossmember. Looks like factory. Anyone ever seen that before?
Also saw old mounts that were welded to the uniframe. (This XJ had a snow plow previously)
Pulled the aftermarket radio out and noticed there's a plug that's unused behind it. Anybody know what it is?

Did some noggin poking, and cleaned the battery post connections...
Had the tool to clean the posts and the inside surface on the terminals.
Since the lead clamps was eventually pushed together over time and it needed to be tight on the posts...
What I did was to take the bolts out, run a hacksaw blade on it to clear the gap.
Put bolts back on and it grips the posts more securely..
I know it is so old and corroded, but it ll do for now, until I replace entire cables with better ones.

Took the throttle body out and took it apart, cleaned it really well. And since it's already out, I m gonna take it to work tomorrow and have it blasted clean.
And I noticed that the coolant temp sensor was cracked when I unplugged it (did cleaning on all plugs on the engine).
The thermostat housing is leaking so bad and so corroded. I'm gonna have it replaced. Along with another sensor.
I also unplugged the PCM, unbolted it out of the way and then cleaned the factory sensor grounding location on the inner fender. And reinstalled the PCM.
Next thing I need to do is to clean the grounds on the oil dipstick and on the ignition coil. And put the throttle body back on. And see if doing all that withers stop the rough idle or at least improve it.
