6 months ago I bought this 2001 Cherokee with 165,000 miles for 1600.00. It was trashed with plenty of potential and NO rust. Lots of clunks and rattles and oil and grease everywhere. I have never done this kind of work and enjoyed most of it.

Lots of cleaning and small repairs and replacement parts done. For me the major work was: New valve cover gasket. New oil adapter o rings. New Bilstein shocks front and rear. New leaf springs. New rear wheel bearings and seals. Differential cleaning. New slotted and drilled disc rotors with EBC break pads. New rear drums with all new parts and cylinders and shoes. New coil springs up front. 2" coil spacers New sway bar links and steering damper and other suspension parts. Flushed radiator and heater core. Replaced rear trans tail seal. New oil pan gasket and rear main seal. New starter and battery. New cargo door shocks. New carpet. Custom made seats. New Fuel 15" wheels and new Duratrac 31X10.5X15. Fender trimming. New paint. ALL dings and dents removed. Same color as my 2014 Ram 1500.

It runs, rides and drives as new as I can get it which was my goal. I have worked on it almost every day since I got it. Being retired helps. Bro in law found it. I didn't know what a cherokee was till I bought it. Glad I didn't know much like the 0331 head which (knock on wood) is fine for now. I would have gone 4X4 had I known, but I did enough rocks and mud racing motorcycles cross country. Plus, I am to old now to go through all that work again. I enjoy seeing yalls trail pics. I'll troll the Malls trying to pick up your girlfriends while you are wheeling tearing stuff up. J/K remember, I am old. If I do anything else I will buy a junk 4X4 and convert it to my maller so I can lose the stigma.

Nothing really left to do and I don't think I can sell it for what I have in it. I wanted to give it to my granddaughter but she doesn't want it She wants a Land Rover LOLOLOL Good luck

If granddaughters only knew what they had with an XJ. She probably just see's an "old" vehicle. Land Rover??? Sounds like she needs to learn the value of a dollar

You'd never sell it for what you've put into it. but that's why it's a labor of love! All you can do is love it and drive the **** out of it! Maybe you have a grandson that would want it in the future? Or for that mater a son? Regardless of age (I'm 28) I'd loose my mind if my old man gave me a XJ like that.

Well I dug my own hole. I bought her sister that had a 98.5 grade average in HS a new Camry. She is now in A&M. So I set the precedent. The younger one is 16 with a learners permit and is holding out on the hope I will repeat the gesture. OR, her father (my son) has a JK that she thinks she might get (fat chance). What 16 YO isn't out of their mind? I was riding a Harley Hummer 125cc to school in all kinds of weather when I was 16 and loving every minute of it. I would have jumped on the XJ in a NY second.
