Hi, I have a 79 Chief 360 with a Th 400 I'm thinking of a engine swap. Will a Chevy 350 bolt up to the trans? Will I need a adapter plate?

No, it will not. The bell housing is different. Check with Advance Adapters for more info.

i would find a gm t400 to bolt to engine and skip the adapter... lot cheaper and safer and easyer bolt in...

That is a great idea, but I can't think of any GM tranny that had the 6 bolt flange we have. They had a five bolt pattern

you should be able to find a TH400 from a chevy truck that will fit an SBC V8.....the 350 is the most popular chevy engine ever used and the TH400 has to be one of the most popular autoboxes....
also check and see if you can just get a chevy bellhousing that will fit the SBC and the TH400

It's not the engine, it is the tcase I am talking about. The GM T400 goes to a five bolt ring on the tcase, the Jeep uses a 6 bolt ring. Input splines on the tcase are just about guaranteed to be different too. GM uses 31Originally Posted by Hommersimpson
