Dave's Gunmetal Pearl 99 Build
Maybe ill keep this thing long enough to constitue an actual build thread. Its been a year since ive had an XJ...and ive damn sure missed it.
As always, a run through of my Jeep history:
First ever Jeep, bought in late 2009, 88XJ:
Went though a couple different lift setups, and did a paint job...when I sold the 88 this is what it looked like:
Sold the 88 and bought this: 98 XJ:
Spent a few bucks on tires/wheels and a 4.5" RE SuperFlex. Looked like this when I traded it off:
Traded that black XJ for this and got rid of it fairly quick:
Sold the Yota, and got this (bought it cheap with front end damage) 2000 XJ:
After lots of blood, sweat, beer, and other miscellaneous necessities I ended with this:
Infamous picture:
Ended up thinking I wanted a wrangler, so traded the silver XJ for this 97 TJ:
Found out quick I didnt want a Wrangler for lack of room, so the TJ got sold, and I picked up this gem. 98 2 door:
When I brought it home:
Lowered it and went with some Mickey 33s:
Ended up selling the 2 door to fund my wedding in September of 2013. I went jeepless until late NOV 2013 when I decided to buy a 99 WJ:
Concluded it was going to be a bit too much work for me to get the WJ to stage 1 of my build plans...so started looking for anything that I could trade for. Picked up this 1991 YJ:
Wheeled the YJ one time, and ended with failure, eventually recovered from this though:
And here we are...traded the YJ on 7/25/14 for this 1999 XJ Gun-Metal Pearl:

Ya I found one built with a Clayton 6.5" L.A. kit on 35s with a dead motor for 4500 before I bought my xj the wife wasn't having it. Are you gonna 3 link this one?

Pending my budget holds up, yes.
Gonna be pulling EVERYTHING off this and selling...then going with RE 5.5 coils, RE 3.5 leafs a small shackle, bilstein 5100s, and the same 3 link that silver had.

I have to skip to end of your builds to make sure its not sold before I read them haha. JK
Thats a good looking rig. RE 5.5 sits perfect for either 33s or 35s IMO.
Have you thought about some shackle relocators they make a world of difference.

Nice build or builds for that matter. I've been debating on trading or selling my xj to pick up a wrangler TJ, but I do love the XJ because of all the room it has. Allows me to camp and sleep in the back. Was the TJ really that bad?

Not TERRIBLE...it was definately a cool ride, and was pretty capable even with just a 2" boost and 33s...
But the short wheel base, lack of cargo room really was a turn off.
