Recently I've been chasing a small coolant leak from the upper rad hose. The fluid was coming out where the hose connected to the rad. I replaced the hose and clamp, but it was still leaking from there. Upon closer inspection, I found the male end of the radiator had a hairline crack under the hose fitting. So, I replaced the radiator with a Napa brand. Also reflushed the heater core. No shoes, no shirt no leaks, no problem.... or something like that.

I totally agree with you on the bumpers and flares. Every time I go to look at bumpers I talk myself out of it. I just wish I could get my hands on a decent spare tire carrier that retained that stock look. Detours tailbone was perfect, but I don’t think he’s building any more of them. I do like how you mounted your fog lights. I’ve been waiting to order a brow bar from detours, but just direct mounting like that has been on my mind.

I have called Detours and begged him to make me a tailbone but he's not making them anymore. The owner of Detours moved from TN to ME, but has not started production of any products because he has not found a metal supplier yet. He said he may be up and running by fall and to keep checking the website so who knows. But the lights bolted to the bumper without a hiccup; just be sure to get slimmer lights that are flush from the mounting bracket to the top of the (rear) light.

Last time I talked to Detours he said he “might” be talked into making a couple, but he’d rather not. I’m not very optimistic. My spare will likely end up on my roof once I get my trailer kitted out to haul my cargo totes. I mounted my fog lights the day I saw your build lol just got them wired up last night. Kinda kicking myself for waiting all this time. The KC Apollo Pros I’m running fit perfectly once I flipped the mounting bracket around. There’s a pic on my build thread. Didn’t want to defile your thread with a picture of another Jeep. Haha

Chased around a lighting hiccup involving my headlights. While out on the trails, my Head Delay Module (HDM) was audibly buzzing. While this was happening, the headlights were dimly flickering even with the Jeep and lights shut off. I ended up smacking the HDM to make it stop which actually worked (thought that was just a Chevy thing). After that, my low beam and high beams would no longer work.

I first checked all the fuses and found no issues. I did some research and found the headlight switches tend to be problematic; I plugged in a new switch but still not headlights. I then used a multimeter and checked the HDM and headlight switch but still found nothing. I double checked all the grounds using the multimeter and jumper wires; no mas.

After 5 days of researching, trying, and failing I had to phone a friend. It was found that my HDM shorted out, hence why I heard it audibly buzzing. That short resulted in a hairline break in the 30 amp fuse in the PDC.

Regardless of the short, I've seen some LED headlights do not seem to cooperate with XJ's factory wire harness and headlight delay module. Plugged in, the headlight delay module may result in some brands of LED's always remaining on (slightly and dimly) during vehicle operation; even when NOT equipped with DRL's. I have pictures of this strange occurrence and have seen it in similar headlights install in other XJs. Weird.

Honestly I really do not care for the headlights I have (Inspired Engineering). They have virtually no cut off which requires me to aim the headlights way down in efforts not to blind on coming drivers. When the high beams are on, the light is projected in the tree tops. Just my opinion, but not for me.

Not related to the problem directly, but I just ordered a set of Truck Lites after hearing so many good things about them. I am eager to see the upgrade and difference.

Summer is going great, so much camping and exploring. I got the wonderful privilege of representing my state (Maine) for Jake Wettern (Iamjake). I was tasked to find a meeting location, a group trail route and camping location for everyone. The day went well except for the sideways hailstorm, but we all survived. Just a couple pictures I wanted to post. The Jeep build is where I really wanted it to be. I will be just replacing/upgrading as needed and saving money to maybe later buying a JK ******.

Awesome - I was planning on meeting Jake this past weekend in the Mass jamboree (NW Ma), but he changed the venue at the last minute to the eastern side of the state.

Love your 2001!
