You know that there's less room under your hood since its an 86? In 87 is when the 4.0 came out with more room for it. Yours was originally designed to not fit the 4.0. Just a heads up.
Yea I've looked up on it and I understand ill have to chop up the engine compartment to fit a 4.0, prolly less for a small block V8 cause 4.0s are so long lol.
I helped my buddy swap out his front end yesterday and he gave me his old hp dana 30, something's wrong with the gears because when I took the yoke off the pinion wiggled back and forth and didn't Ingage right away, I'm planning on going through the gears and maybe rehearing it if it needs it, no that I have a free front axle I'm planning on converting the Mj to 4x4, I'm going to wait to get a t case tho because depending on what motor/tranny I drop in ill have to get a t case that works for them.
Here's the dirty 30s (mines on the right)

go for a chevy 5.3l if your doing an engine swap!! i love the 4.0 and have nothing against it but the 5.3 puts out more than a modded stroker and will require close to the same amount of work
I was going to let this build die before it even began but now it is being revived! So while I was rebuilding my xj after it unfortunate collision

I had to drive my mj for about a month as my dd, and I learned how much a 2.5 litre 2wd manche sucked... I blew up the rear end twice and went through a starter in 30 days :/ so once I got my xj back up and running I kind of forgot about it. But then opportunity struck when I got a call to go pull my buddy's 95 xj out of a ditch during a snow storm. $200 for a 95 xj base model 4.0 aw4 np231 8.25 rear end that caught a fire hydrant at the a pillar and twisted the roof after rolling on its side when going into the ditch. So now my build continues!

The plans are to use the xjs engine and t case with a ax15 in the middle if I can find one if not it will have to be auto manche. The dirty 30 will also go in the manche and the 8.25 will get its mounts re arranged and go in the manche as leaf over. I wanna lift it about 5-6 inches and have her rolling on some tsl 35s, (basically like my xj) with an additional regear and lots of fab work later on. The only things that will slow this build down is the winter weather because my garage cannot store it all winter and money becuse I can only work full time and make the amount of money I need when I'm on break from school. But as of right now I am in the rear down part of the build.

Well it's been a cold and busy winter and the build was delayed but here it goes again,
Continued stripping the donor xj and I will be pulling the drive line within the week

She's a dirty girl

I still don't know what will happen to the Manche's current 2.5 liter and pugeout 5 speed, they both have 240,000 on them but run strong
