Bought not built...

I picked up a 97 sport the other day!!! It has the 4.0 w/ aw4 tranny...here are some specs...

7 in Rusty's Long Arm , Quigley custom driveshaft(this co. does the 4x4 Vans, there work is stout) , Advance Adapters SYE , Spartan locked D30 front with Alloy axle tube seals. Aussie locked Chr. 8.25 rear. 35x12.5x15 SSR's The tires show chunking from the rocks. Cragar soft 8's. TnT Trac-bar with TnT bracket. Rusty's steering box brace....Rear leafs are Rusty's 6.5 leaf packs. Front spring are RC 6.5 coils with 2" spacer. Shocks and s/stabilzer are RC 2.2(the bigger ones). Everything has been put on new within last 9 months except the long arms and tires. The long arms are used but in good condition. JKS quick disconnects.

As of now I still have to get it inspected. :icon_cry: Shouldn't be that hard, but we shall see. Flares WILL be coming off as soon as it does, well the TJ flares will. I may go get some stock ones and throw them on the front.

Plans are...
4.88 gears
Alloy shafts
Sliders
Bumpers front/rear
and more.

Now some pictures...

I will add a bit of background here also...

I had an 89 YJ before this on a 3.5in BDS lift with 33x12.5 MT/R with Kevlar. It gave me nothing but trouble and it got old after a while.

So I put it up forsale and traded the YJ for the cherokee, which is in much better shape.

I normally would have gone with a stock jeep and built it up, but this is my dream jeep and I would have built it up pretty much the same, just a few different things.

1997_Sport - Nice start on a good looking Jeep!

KTMrider 10-09-2010 05:02 PM

Nice! I hope you know they guy who inspects your jeep. Im in MD too. Unibody lift laws suck. 20" bumper height max. For trucks i beleive it is 26" I could be mistaken though. I'm over, but thats now after some upgrades:)

1997_Sport 10-09-2010 05:09 PM

20? :oooo I thought it was 28? lol

I am hoping this kid messages me back on facebook or I hear back from my other friend who can write it off. hahah

EDIT! I am getting it inspected on monday. lol

Btw, where in MD do you live?

KTMrider 10-11-2010 08:28 AM

I could be misstaken but i beleive thats what my old man told me. Im in college at frostburg, otherwise im in MoCo. I hope you pass inspection!

Oh okay I have no clue what it is, I was hoping the latter of the two. haha

I should pass it, my buddy is inspecting it and said he is very lenient and I will pay him extra. lol

I think I know the guy who you bought that XJ from. I picked up a bunch of parts off him a little while ago. He has a very nice XJ and I know it's capable. Did he live in Walkersville?

Yup, but he doesn't have a very nice XJ...I do. :D

Haven't posted in a while on here so lets see what has happened...

Not a whole lot. It did get totaled. No big deal, should be getting a nice 2k check here real soon.

Going to be buying new tires for it.

I put some buchwackers on the front yesterday and realized just how much I hate idiots...

 yeah no kidding.

kellan_musseau 12-12-2010 05:25 PM

So it got totalled..as in couldnt pass inspection and now offroad only?

1997_Sport 12-12-2010 05:28 PM

No got totaled when I got rear-ended. Though I still need to get it inspected, but I have to wait for the insurance check to fix the hatch and bumper.

mcssls 12-12-2010 09:08 PM

looks like you need to get rid of the drop pitman arm. The trackbar to draglink angle looks all wrong. They should match.

1997_Sport 12-15-2010 10:30 AM

I bought front and rear JCR bumpers last night, and will buy a winch once I get her on the road. Just so I know how much money I have left over from insurance. I am starting to work soon, so all money will go towards the jeep.

I need to adjust my longarms, get it aligned and weld on my trackbar mount. After all that I will check out the pitman arm and all that. As of now I am not to worried about it though.

Alright I will, no add-ons just yet. I will probably end up sticking the spare(when I get one) in the back anyway. Plus I couldn't spend over 700 on a rear bumper.

yeah nice bumpers. Basic and to the point. Clean looking too. great choice!!! Do you think you'll do lights like in the pic too?

1997_Sport 12-15-2010 03:20 PM

I will add lights yes, but thats whenever I get them. haha I will probably get the hella driving lights though.

I had those on my last jeep and really liked them.

1997_Sport 12-27-2010 11:57 AM

Just a quick update, I have not heard anything from JCR yet. They are off until Jan. 3rd, so I will email them sometime then to see the progress on them.

I recently installed a Rockford Fosgate p2 12" sub, alpine 500w amp, and will be getting four kicker speakers tomorrow to install as well.

1997_Sport 01-01-2011 12:18 PM

Got a new hatch the the junkyard yesterday and installed it. I will have to paint it some time, but will probably wait until spring unless we get a warm spell soon.

http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r...picture-48.jpg

Also got my insurance check of 2000. 1100 is already spent, so for now I will wait to see what I need for inspections and then spend it on some tires hopefully!

ktmman656 01-12-2011 09:36 PM

Well thats what I thought at first, but if you ever look on TJ flares; which were on the front, you will see a little lip on the back side of the flares. Well the previous owner just trimmed up where that lip was.

It sucks that he did it now that I changed the flares, but I got over it.

Nice bumper choice. Looks real nice man. But I see larger flares on the rear too. Bout some pics of those on there too. Are they just on the rear or you get them installed on the fronts too.

Nope, I got all the bare metal covered up with etchi primer and then sprayed a little black on it and it did it again. Right now the metal is way to cold to paint it correctly. I am going to just put it on and then in the spring I will take it off strip the paint off and try again.

1997_Sport 02-17-2011 12:06 PM
