Another attempt to silence the beast
I love my 98 Sport, but I want to get her a little less noisy on the inside. Dynamat and the other knockoffs would cost me well over $150 to do all that I want to do. So, thanks to Diesel's build and some thoughts of my own, here is my attempt.
Supplies: 3x rolls of peel and stick roof flashing ($40)
1 roll of carpet padding ($30)
1 can of Elmer's spray glue ($5)
Step 1: remove crappy OEM door plastic and replace with flashing
Step 2: Get into rear quarter panel voids and apply flashing and fill in with
carpet padding.
Step 3: Line bed and rear wheel wells with flashing, then glue carpet
padding over flashing. Put carpet back down
Step 4: Do the same as step 3 with floor boards and drive train channel.
(front floor boards up to fire wall)
Step 5: Remove roof liner, add flashing and padding (if possible) and
replace head liner.

Front and rear doors look the same pretty much, so I'm just going to post one pic. I've got to go back in and cut away some flashing from around the lock and opening arms. They are a bit tight

The rear quarter panels were kinda fun. After removing twelve years of dust, I lined the panels with flashing and then shoved carpet padding where I could. Some areas have to be left a bit open so the trim can go back on.

Yanking up the carpet in the back was a small chore. The cargo anchors are riveted in. I un-gracefully yanked the carpet away in those spots. The carpet lays flat again and the trim was a bit tight getting back in, but the difference is amazing!

That is literally the best idea i've seen in a long time. Great job at silencing your beast.

Pity you have already done it, but I would have recommended closed cell foam as padding. It soundproofs well, cost marginally more than padding, weighs less, heat repellent and will not -I repeat- NOT absorb water like jute padding. You might say you don't plan on flooding the jeep, but no one ever plans that. I used 1/2" Neoprene when I repaired my XJ from flooding. I would post pics but I'm at work & can't access the host sites.
Otherwise, nicely done.
