anybody still following this?
I got the front springs replaced, and that seems to have addressed the issue of the front drive shaft hitting the exhaust, I then tightened up the trackbar good, and that seems to have fixed the death wobble. I got a longer ratchet than I was using and was able to turn the bolt holding it to the frame almost two full turns, so it was absolutely able to spin slop around. I'll take it for a bigger trip later. This morning I messed with the brakes again, the rears needed adjustment for sure, BUT they were not enough, and I think my brake booster is bad. anybody have any tips on how to test this? (or I still have a TON of air in the lines... ) |
Of course we do !

Well it has been near a damn year since I touched my jeep, It was in storage since January, I've been moving and packing since before December, and Moved into a house three months ago that basically needed to be gutted and rebuilt, so I've been dealing with that. Right now I'm trying to catch up on most of a year of deferred maintenance on our other vehicles, so the jeep is still bottom priority, but maybe, just maybe I'll get it finished before I've owned it half a decade?
Right now she's parked with the law mowers/garden tractor: https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...9b0389954e.jpg |
She moved under her own power (after being on the battery charger for a couple of hours), and I'm serious about getting it wrapped up:

well, already fixed my sticking gas pedal, the two bolts holding it in place were super loose, and there was a cabling hanging down that was causing it to hang up, so I pushed the cable up and zip tied it into place and tightened up the bolts. only 7 more things to go...

Put in correct length brake lines and bled them with the help of my son, I won't know how they are till after I fix some other stuff. Next is going through the front suspension to see if i can figure out the death wobble, see what is lose. |

My Cherokee was not enough of a project, so I picked up another:

after owning it 3 years, finally got it registered, my last house was in a county that required emissions testing, but because it didn't run that wasn't really an option, but I moved an no longer live in a county that requires that so I was able to register it for 5 years for $70. Not bad.
|
Hey dont feel bad, I have had my Jeep for nearly 2 years and havent registered it. Same reasons as you. Going to just register it to my AZ address and call it a day. Makes things so much easier.
|
is it sad that I go so long between bouts of working on my XJ I have to come to my threat to figure out what i need to do next? So of this list:
I'm going to probably fix the click, throw in the brake master, and then... take it to a shop to have an alignment done and have the suspension checked. None of the usual culprits pop up for the death wobble, so I did something wrong somewhere. |

one of these days this will actually be drive-able.
