I don't know man. It's all by feel. And if I get it wrong i have a bunch of 5000lb wratchet straps to make it right. Haha At worst I think you could drop the cross member with jack on the bumper and ratchet strap the crossmember from the rear axle back into place.
It's all good I will most likely just jack up the Jeep put on jack stands like I originally did when putting the LA kit in. This way it will allow my axle to free flow in the event it does move I could hopefully move it back. It will still be held in with springs and shocks so maybe it won't move much if at all. I have a buddy who has a lift that may help with this but the problem is I will need to remove TC tear it apart put new chain in and plop it back in. Basically less than a day project if all goes well but I wouldn't want to keep my jeep on his lift if I don't have to. If I have to I will just do it in my garage floor! Sorry to hyjack your thread!
After a good bit of fun at Rausch Creek, I realized I damaged my gas tank after going through inspection and failing the gas tank pressure test. Only one thing to do. Replace the tank. Whilst it was out, I decided to go ahead and toss another fuel pump in it, as the one on the sending unit appeared to be the oh so vintage original. After installing the new tank and firing her up, I could actually hear the pump for the first time. ha ha.
After spending over 100 bucks on new lines,tank, seals, filter, I decided it's probably time to start the final skid plate for the Jeep. In hind sight this one should have been first. I used some cardboard to cut out a side plate to run on the edge of the hitch brackets. I almost had it as a tub last night, but apparently I bought the wrong cut off discs. Masonry discs don't work so well on metal. :/
After 35 feet or so of welding the new easy remove gas tank skid is complete. I just need to flap disk the rough edges and slap some primer and paint on. The last build day took about 7 hours give or take.
Three cans of Krylon gloss black later The tank skid is good to go. Since I had it in the garage and under it,and the painting stuff out, I decided to make the modification and notch my Rusty's cross member I'm using as a t case skid behind my rock ready kit too. Two very noticeable impact points showed that it had already been hard a work. Protecting my t case as well as my new flowmaster cat.
Finally got around to installing the gas tank skid. 1/8th" clearance all around. I did a pretty good job. I"m kinda surprised. haha. I also reinstalled my crossmember modified to be a t case skid and can report no clearance issues like before. I modified my tire carrier finally to tuck the lower bs wheels in further. This actually gained back the 1/2" or so I lost from the tire sticking out too far. I added some longer shocks in the front to accomidate the rock ready kit's need for down travel. All in all It's been a fairly productive 3 months on the Jeep. Just haven't had a chance to update the build thread for a while.
In this pic you can see the 3" that the tire is tucked in further, regaining some lift in the rear.

Finally got rid of the parts jeep after 3 years of telling my girlfriend it was leaving ha haha. She was thrilled, and at this point it was picked clean. Not much left of her.
Just a few upgrades for the trip to Rausch Creek Bigger joints for the rock read mid arms Replaced stock diff cover with a new Solid diff cover installed hockey pucks to tune the front up travel Had to add yet another leaf pack after moving up to 33's and installing gas tank skid. welded on some 2x3 box steel to rear axle for adjustable bump stops. After add a leaf and rear bump stop installation.
I had a great time at Rausch Creek weekend before last with friends. And made a few new ones. Only damage to report was a blown pinion seal on the D30 and some rock rash which was repainted after a good hose off and degrease. I attempted a few black obstacles, but was unsuccessful. Mainly because I didn't want to push my D35 on 33's to the point of breaking. Not too long after I was able to score a Chrysler 8.25 out of a 99 for a 100 bucks. Might go a bit harder next trip.
Finally getting around to modifying and installing this monster of a roof rack I was given. First step is to remove most of the rails and tubing to cut the weight below 2 tons. Most of the guts removed. cut the width down to 49" Fabricating roof mounting brackets Test fitting. I will be shaving the rack down another 1/2" to lower it some
I don't have any issues with the napier vents. Each vent slot is vertical like a cowl hood. It keeps the bulk of water out. Thanks! I'mhoping to get the rack painted this weekend as its going to be pretty warm. Its all mocked up and bolted down at the moment.
I've had this done for a while, but haven't gotten around to posting the finished product. So here it is. A very homemade low profile roof rack. I used an old ladder I got from a garage sale to deck it. It's light (about 40lbs or so) and quite sturdy. I tested standing on it. Most go with gutter mounts, but I liked the idea of reusing the factory mounts for a cleaner look. It also seems quite sturdy so I shouldn't have issues in the future.
