About to Build a XJ
Hello,
I am new to the forums. I am a Father of 4 and have made a new years resolution to get outside more with my 2 boys.
I have done some research and landed on a Cherokee XJ as what I want to build.
I am going out to look at a 1992 2 Door black XJ and wanted to get some Sage advice.
Is 1992 too old?
Am I better off with a OBD2 car?
What would you say a truck like this is worth?
Here is some of the specs.

Where are these specs coming from? Are you looking at buying this, currently own this setup, or giving us your game-plan? Love the resolution anyway!

I would say OBDII all the way. I bought my first cherokee which was a 2001 with 65K miles for $4500 back in 2008. I bought my second cherokee which was a 1996 with 60K for $2600. I believe 1996 was the first year of OBDII for the cherokees. Personally I would say to forget engine mods as the 4.0 has enough power as it is to break axles and get you to the trail easily.
Lastly, as far as lifts go. I too bought a 3 inch rough country lift and after about 4 months of owning it the rear leaf springs started to sag. They did send me a replacement set for free however changing my leaf springs every 4 months wasn't good for me so I decided to buy rubicon express and be done with worrying about my lift. Good luck with the build.

Im going purely on personal preference here, but I would go with the 92. IMO you get a better looking jeep ( 2 door, old style hatch, etc.) with the good interior. It swings either way, but I personally like the feel of the old style cabin over the new ones.
Both clean rigs though, I bought a similar setup with 190xxx km on it, 33" BFG's, 2 door, manual, 5" lift, yadda yadda for 3200. Just to compare a little. Either way though you cant go wrong and you and the boys should love it!

Yes the '92 us a better deal if you ask me. I would be comfortable with paying 5k if it's passed its inspection and all ready to go.
