99 Cherokee Operation Daily Driver

I have had this Jeep for just over a year and finally started to do some work on it. It's my daily driver so I had to keep it functional, be able to tear it down on Friday night and drive it to work on Monday, and keep it decent looking, or the wife would make me sleep in the Jeep! Not neccessarily a bad thing though! First pic is as purchased. This pic is not my actual Jeep, but mine was exactly as this one sits, exactly. 99 Cherokee, 4.0 I6, Chrysler 8.25 rear. All stock when purchased with 168,000 miles for $1800. Best part was no rust! Mods and many pics to follow as the build progresses!

This is what allowed me to pick up the 99. 96 Cherokee bought for $100 from a co-worker, put about $300 into it, and sold it for $1200. This thing looked good from a distance, but had more floor rust holes than a block of Swiss cheese!

Not really a mod, but definitely an upgrade! Anyone seen these before? I scored the pair out of a really nice Limited in the junk yard. Unfortunately someone had already pimped the rest of the speakers, but I nabbed these. It was a direct plug in as my door wiring already had the plug to accept these! They really add nice highs to the tunes.

Another mod I was dying to try was the hood shock mod I have seen some people do. I took the old worn out shocks from my hatch and added them to the hood, which weighs way less. I have seen this done with one shock but I used both. A little trial and error, and some shock mounts from an old Oldsmobile in the junk yard and I was in business. You should see the faces of the guys at the Oil Change place when they ask me to pop the hood and it actually does! I will try to grab a small video to show you what I am talking about.

Well, plans included a mild lift, cold air intake, hitch, at least 31's, shocks, bumpers, lights, etc. I have already added 3.5" of lift, PIAA lights, 31's, and the hitch. More pics to follow. I wanted to get in a few upgrades before I started this thread. Progress is slow around here and the Jeep always takes a back seat to bills, the kids, and what ever else she can come up with. lol

Well, I will jump forward in time and show you guys what the Daily Driver looks like today. Compare the first picture which was a year ago to this one. 3.5" lift installed, hitch added, running 31's, new front and rear bumpers, PIAA lights, Black Diamond shocks, etc. Overall it doesn't look that much different, but remember, it has to still look good and get me to work on Monday so no major surgery.

Tails and 3rd brake light have been lightly tinted. Never really thought about tinting the front markers. Probably looks good though. hmmm...

Cool little logo I found on the 'net. I run a vinyl machine at work, so I just made some of these up. The rare Mountain Goat Edition Cherokee. lol:thumbsup:

I don't want any un-needed attention from the Po Po. Michigan cops pick on everything!

Well, a little bit of an update. Got a Rusty's Offroad Cold Air intake tube, added some additions of my own, and I made my own heat sheild. It took about 20 trial and error cuts but I finally got it to fit good. I have less than $50 invested, and it netted me a 2 mpg improvement, and it feels a little more peppy. My next step to this addition is to bring in more cool air into the engine compartment from underneath. I picked up an old airtube from a Doge Dakota which will hook up to one of my foglight sockets. I plan on running it into a 3" hole just below the air filter. Almost like a Ram Air setup. Anyone ever done this?

Ok, let's see. Been really busy at work, but did find time to do a few things. VHT'd all the front marker lenses, running 31" Goodyear MTR's now, and it's sitting nice at 4.5" over stock in the rear. 3" over stock in the front. Working on a light bar for the front, and scored some Crager Streetlocks with 32" all terrains. No pics of them yet though.
