96 Oregon XJ
So this is my ‘96 XJ. I picked it up in November 2018 with 256 thousand miles on my it. It has been a bit neglected and has the typical ‘teenager’ modifications (Air filter, stereo, fog lights), all of witch needed to be corrected. I’m really not sure where I’m going with this yet. It is my DD even though it requires a bunch of maintennace. My goal right now is to get everything repaired and working correctly. This is what I’ve accomplished so far; 1. Replaced from hubs 2. Replaced broken dash bezel 3. Replaced damaged transfer case 4. Replaced missing stereo mount 5. Replaced grill 6. Replaced from turn signal lenses 7. Replaced driver side mirror 8. Replaced starter 9. Replaced rear hatch struts 10. Replaced tires 11. Removed broken fog lights and associated wiring 12. Repaired/replaced battery cables 13. Replaced faulty temp sensor (Mopar parts rule!) 14. Replaced missing armrests 15. Performed basic tune up (cap, rotor, plugs, wires) 16. Replaced front seal 17. Changed from/rear gear oil - lubed 18. Corrected various wiring issues 19. Corrected driver side passenger door lock Theres more, I’m sure, but this will have to do for now. Next up on the list will be a new rear hatch, new front windshield and I’ve got to address an engine noise. Will probably be replacing the timing chain/gear set soon. The engine just turned 260 grand. Here are some unremarkable pics. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...1cecdf5ac.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...0b8dea621.jpeg Rear hatch damage. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...b3a01d292.jpeg In the beginning. |
4-28-2019 Rear Hatch Install Prepare.
Okay, so today I prepped my Jeep for the new rear hatch install. I picked up a good used one in the same color, a new latch (because mine was toast), and some new screws. I managed to get the old screws out after a considerable amount of time soaking them in penetrating oil but I’m still planing on using the new ones I ordered. I plan on installing all of this in the coming week. I also removed the headliner and started mapping out a plan of attack to re-do it. I found a few good plaids and a few good solid grays. It all depends on the material, felt or maybe fleece. Hell, maybe I’ll do some deep gray Wookiee style fir! All hail Big Foot!

I grabbed another "biscuit" from a wreck, as mine was toast...even better, it had a good headliner fabric...which matched mine in color !...messy job
have also done headliners in various vehicles, both felt and foam-backed liner, the foam often goes bad after about 10yrs around here, cause the sun is hot, especially on dark cars |
Well I replaced the rear hatch. I forgot to take pictures but to be honest it was pretty straight forward. Even re-routing the wires wasn’t that bad. The entire job took about an hour, start to finish. I still need to install the wiper and the panel/door card. I’ll try to post a few pics this week. It looks pretty awesome and is lined up perfectly. Next up, I’ve got to chase down a vibration somewhere in the driveline.

Hey awg, what is a biscuit?

My Jeep was rear ended by another Jeep! A Wrangler with a winch bumper annihilated my OEM bumper but my hitch saved the rest of the vehicle from receiving any more damage. I had just replaced the hatch too! Lucky.
