I'll jump in!
Looks nice! I've got a 96 2dr also but it's 2wd and I'm going lower.
and I've also got a front end from a '99 4.0.
PLEASE SAVE YOUR WIRING ROUTING/SPLICING in some sort of diagram if ya don't mind..

The pig tail for the '96 is like 8 pin and the harness for the '99 looks to be like 12..?
Don't know why on the '99 they have 2 separate lights and wires for each turn signal.
I really don't like wiring and could use the help and or instruction on how you come out.

I've had good luck in painting plastic by hitting it with quick blast of Brake-Kleen and then hit it with FUZION paint from Walmart or others. It seems to start to melt or make tacky the very surface and holds the top coat better.
Been doing it with Hondas interior for years.

I will try and document that next time I am out at the Jeep, I have heard it is best to just splice in another bulb to accommodate - not sure how I will approach it yet, long ways off yet!

As for the build the rockers are cut out and I am buying materials for the new inner rockers that match up to the pinch seam.

Here is what she looks like now, have a lot planned for Friday and Saturday. I want to get the rockers done and start on some rust treatment for the underbody. Then onto the floor pans. While my welder does all of the that I will be sanding, removing windows, removing the gas tank, etc. I'll try and post while I do work.

I also have a lead on some 97+ doors with power everything. I found some, in a town 5 hours away, and thought I would have my work cut out for me finding some more but guess what is parked outside of my welder friend's place - the exact car I'm looking for '97-'01 2 door cherokee - it's even black so the owner maybe more apt to switch with me.

Just looked at your build and you think I have a lot of work? A complete engine rebuilt is a daunting task, I know enough about body work to get by but an engine would be new grounds. I'll be looking at your build from time to time!

I plan on someday getting an engine from the scrap yard and building it up while the jeep is still alive and running so that when it dies I will just have to pluck it out and put it in there.

When I paint my jeep I will be removing the windows and the stock seals as they are leaking, so I found replacements but I am pretty sure these cargo window seals are made for the 4 door and not the 2 door..
Rear hatch: http://www.quadratec.com/products/55014_8102.htm
Here is the chat with Quadratec about the cargo windows...
Thanks for your patience, a Quadratec Team Member will be with you shortly.
info: You are now chatting with 'Jacki T'
Jacki T: Hello. Welcome to the Quadratec Live Chat Service. How may I assist you?
Kyle: I am looking for the window seal for the two cargo windows on my 2 door cherokee - 1996
Jacki T: Let me take a look for you. One moment please.
Jacki T: These should work for you
Jacki T: http://www.quadratec.com/products/55014_8100.htm
Jacki T: http://www.quadratec.com/products/55014_8101.htm
Kyle: The parts don't specify they are for the 2 door - and the 4 door (the more common of the 2 models) has smaller cargo windows - are you sure these will fit my jeep
Jacki T: These should work for you Kyle. I have no indication that it will not work for a 2 door model
Thoughts? Like I said in the chat, I'm pretty certain they wont's work.

And I just found this, which specifies that is is for the 4 door model: http://www.quadratec.com/products/55014_8112.htm

EDIT - none of the cargo seals will work; anyone have success finding new window seals?

Trying to decide whether I want the original Cherokee logo my 1996 (located on fender) or upgrade to newer body style and have the separate letter style on the doors... At that point I would but the new 2015 cherokee lettering - I can't really tell the difference, maybe a little longer but I have the 2 door so it shouldn't look strange at all.. hmm, opinions?

So I'm pretty sure I will be buying this Jeep. The body has next to no rust on it and the engine is shot. do and engine swap. Replace the fenders and front clip with the maroon ones I got off a 2001 XJ since these are all dented up, figure out how to accommodate the manual conversion. Paint her up and call it good for now. If I come ahead after scrapping the one that started this thread them by a lift and bigger tires etc. otherwise piece it together over a year or so. I would hate to see this one wasted but the body is rough to say the best and parts are adding up with stuff not coming off when I turn wrench.

This is a 1997 2 door XJ, needs an interior panel or two and drivers side glass. The engine is garbage but the is only a drop of rust about a palm size in about 3 places. The roof has what appears a really ****ty rhino liner on it and would be ground off when I painted it. Just little things here and there and I'd be done.

On a side note I have the misfortune of swapping out my maroon WJ's radiator as that broke - whats that saying about Jeep's, just empty every pocket?

So if anyone needs any parts before I take it the the scrap yard PM me!

Oh, almost forgot, the 1997 is an automatic - I would be swapping in the engine and transmission from mine - what should I be aware when making this swap, I should have all of the parts since I'll have a jeep that runs the set up as is, just relocating it to the 1997 model.

This Jeep is now giving it's live to a better cause: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f46/2-...ke-2-a-222961/
Let me know if you need anything off of this Cherokee. As long as you pay shipping from Fargo, ND and a little money to make it worth my while it's yours. Our scrap yards here suck to sell to so I'd get more parting it out little by little then selling the chassis.

Every time I leave the shop this thing looks more and more barren. Tonight I sold the drive shaft, and took out the cargo windows and taillights to sell next weekend.
