94 xj engine swap

I was wondering if a engine from a 1989 would go into a 94 xj? Was wondering because I have a new engine sitting in my 89 that’s used for parts

The '94 Grand Cherokee engine (likely a 4.0L) should fit your '01 XJ with minimal issues. The '99 Grand Cherokee engine won't work easily due to different intake/exhaust setups and potential sensor/ECU compatibility problems. Stick with the '94 if it's in good shape.
