Sooo....selling my 4Runner. I was going to give it to my daughter to drive, but instead I decided to pick up something new.....

Enter what she calls the "Tardis".....she's as big a nerd as her Dad.

It runs and drives nice, but there are parts that are ghetto 'fabulous'.....

But all in all, between this and my XJ and MJ it looks like I'm gonna start collecting parts for everything......

Ok...so here is my take from the local JY for this weekend.

Console and glove box lid is for my daughter's 'Tardis'. Some badging for the MJ. And another air intake tube for a in-cowl CAI.

Then a new rear pinion seal and SCORE! I found a brand new sunroof power relay to get the glass moving. Find the whole scoop here https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f67/as...9/#post1960745

One bad thing.....I forgot to ask the JY to mark which seal came from which door.....so now I have a pile of black spaghetti.

Ah...couple more things....went garage sale hopping this last weekend and my $5 score of the day? MONDO Recovery strap.

Then today I saw a JEEP convergence at the grocery store. I love it when that happens.

Size: 69.4 KB

Then I noticed when I was in the line at the drive through that although my temp gauge was only slightly elevated the sensor under the radiator was reading HIGH.

Size: 41.3 KB
Name: IMG_20120815_202219.jpg

But then the electric fan kicked in and the gauge dropped down.
Name: IMG_20120815_202409.jpg

And once I was rolling down the highway the outside temp sensor dropped back to normal.

Anyone else seeing these kind of high temps on their outside sensors at idle?

Nice build!!! Also thumbs up on the Wired shirt!

From what I recall, the sensors for the overhead console are actually located in the front of the engine bay. Normally behind the bumper or headlights I think. I'm guessing your fan clutch is on the way out if you got to that high of a temp in Alaska unless you were driving it really hard. My electric fan doesn't come on down here until I hit the AC or I've been making him work and it's over 80F

Rear Pinion Seal
So job #1 today started with a trip to the parts store. While I was there I ran into a guy with a seriously cool Wrangler, with a trick com system setup. Both shortwave and CB run through aviation headsets. He let me shoot some photos of it.

Anyway, after getting what I needed I headed back and started on my rear pinion seal, it's been leaking. I'm losing about a pint of lube every 300 miles.

So pull the caps and the driveshaft.

Once pulled I put on the 1 1/8 socket and pulled....and pulled......blew a blood vessel....and pulled.....holy frickin cow.....

PB Blaster.....hammer...heat......PB Blaster......kill me now....put a cheater bar on it......nothing...finally I had a brain flash.......2 ton floor jack.

Nearly lifted the rig off the ground....but finally....it broke my 25 year old Crafstman 3/4 drive ratchet....but it let loose.

Pulled the seal, cleaned everything up. Looks like the yoke is slightly grooved, but I'm crossing my fingers. Put it all back together, ran a few miles no leaks so far.

One thing I noticed was this:

CKVP MOPAR Third Row Cargo Bins w/Table

google provided a link to a MOPAR item named the same thing for minivans.

A full width cargo bin, where the top has legs that fold out into a table. This would have been soooo cool to have....but alas....I'm sure it's sitting in some PO's garage on a shelf.

*sigh*

I am enjoying the whole process of doing the work and sharing here on the forum. I find it very satisfying.....although it is hard when your hands are covered in goo and you need to pick up your phone to snap one more pic LOL.
