Default 9" Rebuild Question

I am rebuilding a 9" axle and I ran in to truble with the brake drum off. The star wheel is so rusted i can not get it to move with out braking it. I am going to put rotors on it so i do not care if the drums get beat up (not like they will work as is). So i was thinking of just putting a grinder to them were the pads are to pry it off but I do not know if that will work. I am kind of stuck at this point so i was hoping for help from you guys!
