Default '87 2dr resto/ slow build

hello, i'm kinda new here, but have been lurking for months. thought i'd put up some pics of my jeep and progress. i plan on fixing it up as i get money. '87 cherokee 2 door 4.0 5 speed and it needs some tlc. picked it up cheap because it ran funny and is a bit rusty. drove it for about 8 months and then it sat because it needed help i wasn't willing to give for 8 months or so. i had a 89 bmw 325is that needed an engine swap... that took some time, but got it fixed and sold and now i have a '92 silverado as a dd so i can spend some time on the jeep. questions comments concerns whatever go for it, i'm not easily offended.

good-
76k original miles,
5 speed- i hate auto,
custom headers i mean header,
k&n air filter,
baldish 31" tires,
hella fog lights up front.

changing now(ish)-
master cylinder and brake booster-just done
drivers side hub assembly- just done
fuel filter- just done
gas tank a little while ago.
transfer case in the next week or two- i have one
battery/ cables
tires
fix rust eventually with an undercoating of some sort
and because i'm a kid i have a system to put in it

worst issue is the one these renx engines are known for i found out... bad idle. it starts and within a very short amount of time it goes up to almost 3k rpms and just screams along. i've done some reading on this and will check the iac, tps, egr in the next day or two. then its off to look for vacuum leaks and bad ground wires... fun. info on the iac and egr would be nice.

anyway here it is

cleanest it's been

lame suspension test/ parking spot #2

little fun before transfer case broke

sisters dog

hub assembly, rust

more pics to come

when i can get a garage and time to kill i plan on getting underneath it and scraping everything and coating it. and when the lift comes, not for a while, i plan on getting all new shocks/ springs etc.

I dont want to bust your bubble.. but you are starting out with a rust bucket.... and its going to cost you so so so so so much time and money and serious hard labor... only to have it still turn into a rust bucket...
Go buy a jeep thats clean with no rust ... they are all over the place..
If this was a rare jeep.. and you could not find another one... then yes you have to use what you have..... By the time you get done with one end work your way to the other end... you will have to start over were you started... You are better off finding a 500 - 1000 dollar jeep thats not rusty but in a few of the normal places... Rust is Rust... and that thing has surface rust everywhere
Only my opinun.. but ive delt with rusty cars and trucks for long time...

the plan is to make it a winter beater and clean it up as best i can without spending too much money on it, and if i can ever find a clean manual tranny cherokee with a blown engine or something cheap i'll swap this engine out with it. with the low mileage on it i am hesitant to just get rid of it. just kind of something i'm tinkering on right now since i have it.
