4.0 into poor-boy stroker?
I got this magazine from a friend about using a 4.2 crank and rods in a 4.0. Has anybody done this? It looks really simple, and I was wonder if anybody had to deck the block or do any fly cutting. What all AMC's came with this 4.2? This poor-boy stroker would be pretty cheap while I have my motor out.

i'm in the process, its a cool build. yj wrangler from 87 to 90, and cj 7's had the 4.2 engine. you do all the machining, and rebuilding just like a normal rebuild. the nose of the 4.2 crank is a little longer due to multiple drive belts, instead of a serpentine belt. so machining the nose down is required. otherwise pretty straight forward.
i have a 4.2 crank extra laying around, might be sold, but not yet. i'm near chicago, if you're interested let me know.

extra crank? Was that the practice one? lol, jk. Do you have 4.2 rods as well? How hard do you u think it will be to find this stuff at a junk yard that would still be usable?

i should have an extra set of rods to. they're from another 4.2 motor i disassembled after i had my stroker parts. finding them in a junk yard is basically impossible, there's none left. junk yards crush things now days that are getting old.
