Amazing what a lil lift and wheels and tires will do. Shes got a nice footprint now. Good work.

I have a 98 XJ - same color as yours. How does your XJ drive with the Rusty's installed? Any issues with tire rubbing or transfer case vibes?

Attached is my 98 up in the Yukon.

Cheers, Michael

Wow, if this is where you live then I'm really jelaous! Your Jeep looks right at home in those mountains!

The Rusty's is OK. I wasn't a fan of the shackles, they seemed to bind up the rear axle, made it ride rough, and handled horribly while turning. I opted for Old Man Emu 2" Heavy Duty Springs, and switched back to stock shackles. I was blown away by the improvement in ride quality, far superior to the stock ride.

The springs also raised the vehicle height slightly more than the Rusty's shackles had. This caused some driveline vibes, so I fabbed up a t-case drop out of 1" steal cube tubing. This fixed the problem. You may not have this issue in a 98 though.

The front spacers are OK, I have no complaints up there. However, I will probably switch over to a set of Old Man Emu front lift springs in the future, and will swap out the factory shocks for longer aftermarket ones.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Recent Upgrades

5 Attachment(s)
I've installed several upgrades over the past few months so here are some pics.

Attachment 35003
I've added a Yakima Mega Warrior cargo basket to the roof, as well as the Yakima spare tire mount, as the 245/75/16 tire will not fit in the stock location. The basket is great for all my summertime expiditions and backpacking trips.

Attachment 35004
New Rampage H4 Headlight housings, New H4 wiring harness visiable through the grill (I still need to cover this with a black wiring loom). And I also installed a set of Hella Fog Lights.

The wiring harness really made a difference in the brightness of the new H4 bulbs.

Attachment 35005
I converted my rear breaks over to Discs off of a 98 Grand Cherokee. It really wasn't that hard to do. The hardest part was fabbing up the e-brake. I had to use one cable from the Grand Cherokee, and one off of my XJ with some slight modifications to the attaching ends.

Attachment 35007
You can see how the rear sits higher now since the installment of the Old Man Emu HD springs.

Jeep looks great on those wheels. On the way home from work I saw a set of Moabs in a pawn shop window. I was wondering if they would fit my XJ. You just answered my question. I'm running a 3" Rough Country lift. That's a nice looking rig you got there. Seems like we're heading in the same direction with the upgrades. I'm planning on doing the H4 upgrade soon.

After upgrading the front springs and the rear leaf springs, and returning to the stock shackles did you leave the rustys coil spacers?

Vincenza V 07-06-2011 08:46 PM

"After upgrading the front springs and the rear leaf springs, and returning to the stock shackles did you leave the rustys coil spacers?"-yes, I'd like to know to if if even worth doing the rusty's kit or buy JUST OME springs? I love that stance. Did the T-case spacer COMPLETELY eliminate the vibe caused by the lift?

Man that this is super clean, love the color too.

chadh92 07-06-2011 10:36 PM

Love the color and wheels. I love my XJ, but it looks too much like a boring old station wagon for now. I want to put a 3" and 31s on it, but no offroad use. I like mine being nice and clean too :D
