Looking to do an engine swap I'm at almost 300K miles wanted to do a diesel swap but was told that'll cost upwards to 10k, heard about the Chevy 350 small block swap. But I'm indifferent on what would be the best and cheapest swap for my daily driver?
There is nothing cheap about swapping in a completely new powertrain from a different vehicle into another type of vehicle. Everything has to be custom.
If your going to swap in a GM V8 don't waste your time with an old school 350. Go with an LS 4.8 or 5.3. Engine swaps are nothing but a down hill spiral and nickel and dime you.
To keep it simple just swap in another 4.0, do a stroker build if you want a little more power.

We love our diesel XJ https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f46/20...ghlight=blacky
Reliable and easy on fuel. TONS of power.
Most guys are spending $5-$7K for this swap but some are doing for half that if they find a cheap donor car and are good scroungers.
