2000 XJ Build
I'm planning on finally getting the parts for my first build this week and wanted to know if there was any advice on what else to get or if I should change something i'm getting. I'm going with a budget of roughly $3-5k. At the moment this is all the parts I have decided to get:
- Rough Country 3" Lift (New Leafs and N3's)
- 15x8 Mammoth Rims (needed 3.75 backspacing)
- Some 31x10.5r15 AT Tires, don't really mind what brand whatever is a good price.
- Front Winch Bumper
- Bumper Light Mount Bar
- Flowmaster 40 Muffler
- All this stuff with the installation for the lift and muffler was estimated around 3500, but before making all these purchases I wanted to know if there was stuff to change or if I was missing anything. I wanted to go for a hybrid build for both highway and off road capabilities. If anyone has any advice I would love to hear it!

Way back when I used to throw Rough Country 3" lifts on my CJ's.
I thought it was a decent lift kit and considering that I actually thrashed around out there back then thought they held up fine.
Lot of guys today say they are trash.
Might want to consider something else.

I've seen that a lot but I also had heard that if you're making a truly offroad vehicle RC is trash, but if I'm going on simpler trails a couple times a month would RC be that bad of a lift to get? When I graduate from University and have the money I was going to swap it out for a new lift from a different company and get a brand new car so then my jeep is more offroad focused, but for now I wanted a lift that would let me to ride trails when i'm home.

The new N3 shocks aren't bad.. Nice stable ride...That's a small, modest lift kit and you'll be fine for your intended use as long as your original rear springs are up to the add-a-leaf duties..Just check all your existing components as you add the kit.. I'm near several offroad parks here and I see rough country components being thrashed all the time..And I've seen drivers break the expensive stuff along with the cheaper stuff and as usual blame the parts not the loose nut behind the wheel..lol...I've had 0 issues with my RC components on both my vehicles but I know how to drive...I'd hold off on getting the flares until you have the lift and wheels/tires on there and make the decision as to you needing them or not for your build.. Those flares are nice{I used them on my build} but might look out of place with a smaller tire and require a bunch of cutting so there's no going back...
