That's what I have came to and will probably be my next pair, my ten year old white bodies were leaking and the ride got pretty harsh, and figured these would be an improvement. $25 per shock is hard to say no to. If these last < 2 years, i'll be happy.

I too am currently fighting with those damn weld nuts. Curious as to how you get yours out. I don't have an air compressor, so I was drilling but it's a long and irritating process.

Sledge hammer and punch finally got them out. Got a flag nut shock mount kit on the way for the rear shocks. Fronts are on and done. Tomorrow the rears go on

Had to get one last Corolla trip before they start charging for parking passes again
New shocks are 10X better on the sand
Front-end Friday?
Awning deployed. Worked great in the sand. Need to figure out how to waterproof the bag, water was trapped inside, maybe drill a hole in the bottom of the bag?
The pups. We're adding a third pup in a few weeks.

June 20-27th we are going on vacation to UWharrie. Staying in a cabin the first half of the week and at Badin Lake campground the 24-27th. It'll be our first time going, taking both jeeps.
Aside from a shovel, axe, jack, recovery strap, air compressor, essential fluids, what other things should we pack for the trails? We are going to only be doing the easy trails and maybe something a bit more challenging, i'm not sure.

Basic set of tools wouldn't hurt. A set of tire deflators are nice to speed up airing down. A separate air pressure gauge to verify pressure when airing down. A piece of 2x12 1' long to put under the jack in the mud and a couple pieces of 2x6 3' long to jam under the tires for traction if needed. Those are the basics I take with me.
UWharrie was fun. I ran into some rock crawling in the middle of one trail that there was no bypass trail for. Fortunately I had a couple experienced guys ahead of me that helped me pick a path and spotted me. Got through it ok without damage to the jeep. Most every trail I went through had a bypass trail to any technical sections - makes all of the trails easy trails that way. There is only one trail I avoided all together, can't remember the name (think it was Daniel). Everything I read about the trail said you are just about guaranteed to snap an axle shaft if you have a stock D30. If I'm in town I wouldn't mind meeting up with you one day out there. It's been awhile since I took the Jeep out.
Found this site with some info on the park: https://www.zuwharrie.com/trails.php

With my Cherokee on 33x10.5 I have done every trail in the park and even did the big ledge on daniel, and both times I went with a big group we got people open open on 31s up daniel. Just takes some careful spotting. We got a full independent full size explorer with 31" all terrains up it. Everything at the park is doable in a fairly built Cherokee as long as you can pick a good line or have a good spotter.

I guess we'll see how brave I am. We are going to go the 24-26th in the afternoon so we don't run into as many people I have heard during the weekend sometimes it can get a bit wild with all the UTV ATVs running around. Not sure if you'd be free or not but maybe we will do a Sat or Sun on the 22 23,who knows.
Thanks for all the info

Girlfriend needs a more reliable Jeep, and is getting out of the XJ game. We are putting it up for sale next week for $1,500. Power steering pump is going out and upon trying to remove it I sheared off a bolt and cracked a bolt mount on the intake so there's only two bolts holding on to it. That was the final straw for me, lol. The floorboards are rusted out and patched together, front pinion seal has a slow drip, just too many items and not enough time or money... engine runs like a dream, though.
We are looking at getting her a WK. I won't be posting until before our trip as a lot is going on right now.

Our other XJ, the Nugget, has been sold. It was hard keeping up with two XJ's and hers kept breaking down weekly. She wanted to stay within the Jeep family on a budget, but wanted newer, so we compromised and got her a 2005 WK. It is IFS in the front with a solid rear axle and single speed transfer case making it "AWD". She doesn't want to do anything but beach trips on it at the most anyway, so i'm okay with that. She already wants to lift it 2" and fit some 31's on it.
