Default 1997 XJ--First build

Whats up guys? I just joined the forum because i recently picked up a '97 country from a coworker for a decent deal. And after driving it around for a few days i was hooked and now i want to do a "basic" build with it.

When i got it from my co worker, it had been sitting for a month or so because it had overheated and he didn't have the time to fool with it since he just had a baby. So, right off the bat i changed out the radiator, hoses, thermostat, thermostat housing, water pump, fan clutch, belt, and put in a new alternator since it was having a difficult time starting...and got rid of the salt life sticker . I had never done much mechanical work, so i was worried about it, but everything has seemed to work out great and after 400 miles there hasn't been any hiccups..yet

Plan is to do a 3.5" rubicon express lift with maybe 32's. This is something im still learning about and may change my mind on a number of things before then. I'm a machinist and welder by trade, so i plan on making my own roofrack, as well as bumpers (if it gets that serious)

anyhow, here are a few pics..not much to look at seeing as its bone stock, but i dig it! Oh yeah, i'm in the metro Atlanta area if there's anyone here from Georgia or the SE

Well over the past few months I haven't done much besides a bunch of maintenance. But this past week I lifted 3" and went with some 31" tires and am having a blast with it. Got some pics from this last weekend on some really simple trails

Then this afternoon I figured that it was time to finally wash it off a little

Sweet ride man, i just got my first jeep not long ago and it is addicting! Mine was overheated too but turned out it cracked the block so i wasnt as lucky as you so im just now starting my lift/tires. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out. And your terrain looks similar to what i have around here in southwest VA

haven't updated this in forever because, well, not much has gone on due to a hectic work schedule.

before anymore major upgrades im planning on re-doing the headliner and (maybe) the seats. Going to be replacing the windshield ASAP, or trying to get it resealed in hopes of putting an end to the pond that collects in my passenger side floorboard everytime it rains!

after all of that is taken care of, i'm wanting to upgrade my suspension to a possible 4.5" lift, as my pro-comp 3" aal is already showing signs of sagging in the back. will be staying with the 31's for the time being as they are still in great condition. Hoping to have some progress in the upcoming months!
