Default 1995 XJ Rebuild

Hey guys. Bought this Jeep almost a year ago, fixing it now. Just trying to get it rebuilt and bullet proofed for now. Bigger build possibly after that.

I have heard that the head gaskets are prone to blowing. Any truth to that? I also have a noisy lifter. I believe this is due to it sitting for over 2 years. If I can't quiet the lifter with an oil change etc then I will obviously be doing head gasket anyway. Will also do water pump, tune-up etc. Feel free to offer any advice.

Wow, low miles too. Good luck fixing it. I'm currently doing basically the same thing to a friends ZJ.

Head gaskets issues are mostly on the 2000 and 2001 models.

Thank you for saving the old girl. She's worth it for sure in my opinion. No head gasket worries on the '95. As stated the issue was with the 0331 heads that came on 2000-1 XJs.

Obviously, go through every fluid in it. That's a lot when you are talking about a 4x4. Two differentials, transfer case, transmission, and it wouldn't hurt to flush the brakes. Good luck and keep us posted!

Appreciate it. I will just get it all buttoned up for now. I would really like to Line-X it down the road.

Low miles and clean minus the smashed front end. What did you pay for it?

Pretty direct question. I don't mind telling you though, I have approximately $650 in it before putting any money into it for repairs/upgrades etc.

I also purchased a second Jeep with a junk motor for parts. I didn't pay near as much for that one.

When we took the apron off of the parts jeep we methodically drilled all the spot welds and then cleaned, jammed, welded to the new jeep, touched up welds. All parts were jammed off of the Jeep which help significantly to avoid paint lines etc.

The problem is now the drivers side looks so clean, haha. Will probably end up cleaning up / jamming the passenger side so all looks fresh and clean. It's certainly more work, but I have a little OCD, haha. It actually gripes me to do it at all because I really want to Line-X the whole thing down the road.

Been doing some maintenance, cleanup etc...

Replaced the Valve Cover Gasket. Pulled the Oil pan as it the oil pan gasket needed replacing, but also wanted to check bearings, clean pickup tube and oil pan etc just get everything cleaned up and checked out. Bearings look mint, so was very pleased about that.

At some point, someone installed an alarm, so taking all of that out now and returning to factory. Will most likely rip the carpet out and either Line-X or roll on Monstaliner.

Well, I got the new Radiator in, my electric fan off my parts Jeep is also bad so looks like I will have to find another.

On another note, got the AC charged, it had already been converted to 134A. Did a full tuneup, plugs and wires, oil and filter, air filter, greased everything etc.

Got it all put back together and rebuilt. Drove it down the road and it drives and sounds great. Will try to post some pics soon.
