Cam or crank position sensor?

Crank position can be a pain.

I like the timing gear sets. They do whine like a s'charger, but I don't mind. I wouldn't pay $500 for it, though. Not worth it.

Ya sometimes it gets build up on it like mine did and it lost its magnetism. Take off the neg side of the battery and unplug the sensor take it out and clean it with a paper towel. Plug is all back in and see if it works. Better then spending 80$ when you don't have to.

Well i brought the xj home yesterday, Me and my uncle started to work on it, We had slipped on the new chain and gears, went to go crank and it wouldent start. we checked that the engine was in time and it was, we also checked the distiputor cap and components. still nothing. after 3 hours of attempting to start, we had gave my uncles friend a call, he is a master tech at FORD. and we told him what was wrong, the first thing he said that once an engine is out of time, and you put it back in time with new chains and gears the CPS goes out and doesnt work any more. so now we have to by a new CPS and it should start righht up. So i will be working on iy again proubly today or this up coming weekend.
a master tech told you this you cant uce the cps after a motor goe out of time dont go to where he works to get repairs ?

~*UPDATE*~
So tommarow am going to work on my xj again.
Hopefully it will be the last day of trying to get it to start up.
All i have to do is change the CPS (crankshaft position sensor) and it should start right up.
Once it starts, i will begin putting everything back in place such as the Radiator, Alternator, Pullys, Hoses, that kind of stuff.
And ill guess that will be all for tommarow.
If anything changes ill let yall know with an update.
Wish me luck,

~*UPDATE*~
So today i had planned to start my xj. Long story short, last night around 10:00 i started working on it becuase i had nothing else to do, Plus thats how much i love my xj. anyways i started taking the cps out witch was a Pain in my ***, i got it out around 1:00, looked over it and one of the wires were cutt, oh yeahh. so to do a test i taped up the wire and i went to go put it back on, but when i went to go do that, there was no way i could fit my hand so that i could put it back in place, and another thing was, that when i went to go look for the nuts the held it in place one had fallen into the tranny so right there is when it turned my world upside down. i finished around 2:30, and started working in it again this morning, now what i had to do was cut from the inside of the driver side to get to where the sensor was sapposed to go, so i cutt about 1 feet of square room to get to it, that wasent a problem, put i still had to find the bolt in the tranny, so what i did was got under the xj, and had to remove the bottem bolts on the tranny to get the bolt out, trust me i was lucky it was there. so i put the sensor back hooked it up went to go start it and boom NOTHING!!! so i am going to buy a brand new CPS sensor this week and hook it up. yeahh good weekend gone BAD. i guess if i do any work to it tommarow i will let yall know with an UPDATE.
