I think it's stupid when I see miles and miles of undeveloped land owned by the state with no trespassing signs all over the place. I just look at it like Whats the big deal? The state is going to sell it all when they need $$ to some big time Developer and then you'll see miles and mile's of Condo's for sale. Well thats how it goe's in CT. Other than that I use the powerline trails here and nobody says anything. I even know a cop that goes in their with his rig so maybe it's not illegal or he dosint care.

don't matter to him. cops have work life and normal more then the rest of us. im saying that in not a bad way whatsoever. that probably ain't the correct wording but you get my point. They have to do their job, but most are just good ol boys that like doing things just like all the other ppl in the world. I have seen off duty officiers drinking in the bar and jumping in their vehicle and driving home. oops offtopic continue:

around here it is technically illegal, but is allowed as long as the local retards don't dump their trash all over the place. every where I know that is now completely shut down was a result of the trash dumpers. I personally see it as our responsibility to make the idiots feel unwelcome. I have even gone as far as picking up some of the crap people dump on wheeling trails, unfortunately we get punished for a few morons who ruin it for everyone. I think a little organized clean up on these places might show land owners and the govmt that most of us are responsible mature people just wanting to have some fun.

Yup you nailed it, they dont want you wheeling and making ruts (you might damage the soil) but hell if you got enough money then just level the whole area and build some condos (destroy it forever). SADLY thats the world we live in i guess.
I wheel these things all the time out here in NV, really good trails. Im sure if your doing brodies in front of a worker right next to a power line, they may say something to you (LIABILITYS)
but untill then i do it anyways. Ive been pulled busted other "non-motorized use" area. and just say, oh im sorry man didnt know, and drive home.
but then again it wouldnt be the first time i did something "illegal" haha
Im not saying be a reason to close lands but...its already closed.

i know its a old thread but the ones around here go through a national forest. i contacted the US forestry service and they gave us permission and told us to be careful cause some of the terrain and they wish they could go with us case it would be a blast. they even told us if we wanted to stop by the local office and we could get some aerial map or some topographical ones.

For any in NC wondering.... Here's our law on it.

§ 14-134.2. If any person, without permission, shall ride, drive or operate a minibike, motorbike, motorcycle, jeep, dune buggy, automobile, truck or any other motor vehicle, other than a motorized all terrain vehicle as defined in G.S. 14-159.3, upon a utility easement upon which the owner or holder of the easement or agent of the owner or holder of the easement has posted on the easement a "no trespassing" sign or has otherwise given oral or written notice to the person not to so ride, drive or operate such a vehicle upon the said easement, he shall be guilty of a Class 3 misdemeanor, provided, however, neither the owner of the property nor the holder NC General Statutes - Chapter 14 Article 22 4 of the easement or their agents, employees, guests, invitees or permittees shall be guilty of a violation under this section.

Seems it's legal here as long as it's not posted otherwise....

I've only ever been 1 place that it was legal to ride on power line trails and that was in NH. They had signs that said 4x4 use only ,carry in carry out with the power company logo. I've always though it would be a great way for some of these companies to make more money. have a 4x4 pass and open up a section once a month or something but then some one stupid would abuse it and kill it for the rest of us.

In SC cops wont stop you from wheeling unless its designated private or no trespassing property. I've ridden power line trails plenty of times and never had an issue. Always check your local AND state laws about 4x4 usage in any situation.

So for the land that has an actually private land owner(not owned by the state). How would a person find out who owns it , so that permission can be either given or not given? I do know that real estate is pubic records, so would I just go to the court house?
