Does it matter where I mount it? I dont have the kit Im just relocating my current cai filter

You're a isn't meant to be relocated. Yours isn't even that much better than the air box, in fact it had more problems, like the one you ran into tonight

I did notice a throttle response increase when I put the cai on. Dont see why it would be an issue to relocate it into my cowl.

You saw better response because you don't have the box restricting flow. It's not really a cold air intake, since it still draws hot air from the engine compartment, no matter what the advertisement said. By eliminating the box, it maid it susceptible to the weather and hydro lock

Thats why I like it is for throttle response. It doesnt add power unless I do forced induction with it. Even then it doesnt add power just improves throttle response. Like you said hydrolock is the thing that worries me the most about having it.
