Looking for some help in the Fredericksburg area?
Wrenching party.
I have a cherokee vac/dis. Front dana 30 that has gears and a locker in it. I would like to swap the gears and locker out of it and into my newer nonvac/dis. Front dana 30. If anybody knows how it would be much appreciated. When project is done who ever helps can then have the spare dana 30 axel that parts were being swapped out of, along with my stock gears.

You ar3e still going to need an install kit. NO two axles are exactly the same when it comes to gear setups. It might be close.. but if the rig is driven on the road.. close might not be good enough. Plus it takes specail tools to do gear installs properly, and I dont know anyone who does it for free.

I think I have decided to just keep the gears and locker in the disco dana30 And just swap over my 1 Piece axels out of my nondisco dana30. I figured that will probably be alot easier. So if anybody would like to help me out that would be greatly appreciated. I've never messed with pulling axel shafts before. Im guessing i'll probably need new seals to so i'll have to pick a set up.

You are going to have to change out your inner axle seal... which means pulling your front end all the way down and removing the carrier and gears.

believe it or not, it's easier than it sounds. i mean i've never messed with a disco front end, but i figure, if u take out the mechanical disconnect assembly and put the cover back on it, that should be it.
as for the shafts, take out the three 13mm bolts behind the hub, and you can pull the hub and axle shafts alltogether. no disconnect required from the carrier as far as i know. also, the carrier shims on D30 should go on the carrier before the bearings, so if u wanna take it out just to do the seals, u don't have to re-set it.
either way... Uncle sam wants me from 10th till 24th of september, but any other time, i'm here. call me a couple of days ahead just to let me know. with the baby coming, we do get busy every now and then.
