That'd cut down drastically on the muddy road issue he's battling. Which would lead to more open weekends.

With the equipment they have I don't know what the hold up is.

Hopefully I can get my junk back together and running in time for that. I'd really love to hit that park before I leave SC for wherever I get stationed next

If I lived closer I wouldn't mind helping out.

From what I hear it's more of an issue with money to bring gravel in.

Gravel ain't cheap.

They should check craigslist then. I see gravel posted up all the time and on rare occasions listed in the free section. They should at least post up ads to try and find the cheapest place to get it from, and/or ask for help. I have seen ads where people want gravel removed from property. every little bit would help.

Yep, that's true.

The biggest issue he's having right now is the county complaining about the road getting muddy. He closes the park at the first sign of rain...

that's no good. Is there anyone thats good with figuring the best way to angle the entrance/parking lot along with trenching and directing runoff?

I've only been there once and that was about a year and a half ago, but IIRC, most of the parking area and entrance is angled into the park. So I don't think it would be too difficult.

Yeah, it was bad last year... it's got WAY worse.

My trailer drags the ground when I drive through the huge ruts in the parking lot.

Last weekend I had people telling me that they were having to pull their tow rigs out of the parking lot with their trail rigs and then load up in the road...

I really want to see the place continue to succeed but it needs some help. Unfortunately, I don't have the funds to help.

wow that's crazy about hooking up on the road.

I'd hate for it to go down because of the parking lot.

That's only been the case when folks were caught in the rain and the parking lot gets muddy but it's always been bumpy.

Not sure how we would do it, but Skip needs a "Fix the parking lot" ride down there. I would be up for that, even doubling the entrance fee for the event, with the dedicated purpose of fixing the parking lot.

I don't have a tow rig right now, or I would donate tractor and box scraper time, but there has got to be enough "regulars" in SC that could help with some time and skid-steer or grader work.

I know a tri-axle load of crush and run is expensive, I need three loads on the road to the back side of my place.

The reclaimed asphalt from road grinding used to be cheap and easy to find, but they are major recycling it now.

I know its a small park, but its what we have, it needs to stay open.

exactly. and im sure there are at least a few people on here that have equipment they could "donate" time/use to skip or help out in exchange for advertisement at the park for they're business or services. The park could easily help out local business' and the community while getting help from locals. That's what this country needs anyway, communities and locals working together to benefit the overall good of the town, city, state.

my wife said she wouldn't mind doing a bake sale. so thats just one example of another way to help bring in some money.

I dont know what it is about gulches. it's not very big but its very comfortable being there and the people that work they're are really cool and helpful. and theres plenty of things for people to do.

I think they should make the first weekend of every month, or the last week of every month, they could do a clean the park ride where if you bring back at the end of the day your there(or last day of weekend trip) a bag of trash(garbage bag size) you get half your money back from that trip. That way its not mandatory and the ones that truly want to help will and not have to pay as much in return for the services.

just a few ideas off the top of my head right.

and I like the idea you had as well.

Also great ideas. I know Skip posts on some forums other than the Gulches one, but I don't recall which ones. Does anyone on this forum have more of a "direct" communication line with Skip?

I just lost my job today, so my ability to donate may be tight in a few weeks, but I am still interested in helping with this if it gets any traction. After updating my resume and sending it off, the one thing I will have plenty of is time, I can only fix so much on the XJ without spending some $$.
