Wheeling in (Central) Jersey
Hello, everyone. Me and a couple of my buddies are looking for a good place to go wheeling that is legal. We are in Middlesex County, but wouldn't mind a bit of a drive as long as it's worth it. We have a few fun wheeling places, but have been chased out a few times by unexpected guests. If anybody has any offroading spots around the Central NJ area, please let me know. Thanks.

I keep hearing of Wharton State Forest, but it's a far ride for me and my Cherokee is completely stock right now. I don't know if it could handle too much abuse. Also, is it an offroad park where you have to pay to get in or is it just open to the public?

like i said its all state owned property and it is totally free and legal. if you go to google satellite images look over at wharton and bass river state forests and it should give you a pretty good idea of what its like. its pretty big with lots and lots of "fire" roads. if your still stock i guarantee you'll be able to get around and explore back there just fine without a problem. i have usually have to go looking for a nice deep one. and if there is one you can get stuck in there is often a bypass route around it. always have proper recovery gear like straps and recovery points and either a buddy or a good come-along to get you out....other than that just watch out for "ranger bob" if they don't like you they can give you a whole bunch of little tickets which are $77 each. there is actually a 15mph speed limit in all state forest trails not that anybody really cares lol. i know i'm not anything near an expert on all of trails of the pine barrens but if you have any other questions about them feel free to ask

Wow I think I might have to plan a day trip in the near future. I don't understand the tickets though....if it is legal, then what are they ticketing you for? Thanks for the great info.
