Before I got the Jeep, I would've told you to upgrade and drop a 383 in there...but I love my 242
Good luck with it, man. I won't be able to help cause I'll be back out in DE. Are they paying for it?

Displacement or 'size' of the engine in cubic inches. 383ci is the big brother of the Chevy 350 (what I have in my Camaro). 242ci is the standard 4.0L I6 in most of our Jeeps.

I prefer Ford blocks myself, but wouldn't even entertain the thought of swapping out my 4.0 for one of them

You may be in luck... if you can wait until the end of the month, I will GIVE you the motor and tranny out of mine. You will have to haul it from Joppa though. If you replace the gaskets, oil pump and rear main seal you should be able to get a few more miles out of it until you are in a better position to get a better motor. There are some good deals out there on running motors (I am paying $300 for motor/tranny with 110xxx miles on them) just gotta look for them...

You have my #, call and confirm on the 23rd.
You WILL need an:
Oil pump
Valve cover gasket
Rear main oil seal
Oil pan gasket
Either an oil pressure guage or sending unit
Compression on all 6 cylinders are as follows:
READINGS FRONT TO REAR
1. 120
2. 130 Plug wet w/oil
3. 130
4. 130
5. 125
6. 105
I believe that #6 has a bad?? rod bearing in addition to shot rings. Motor should hold you over until you can either track down a better one or rebuild what you have. Who knows, you may be able to get 1,000,000 more miles out of it
Mike
PS- You will have to excuse me for not offering to help w/yours, this will be my vacation week and I think my wife would have my b*lls if I spent more than 2 days working on vehicles

I can ask Rob tonight and see what he says. It is his property, and the only reason I can do it there is that I am calling in some favors (Also helps that I am his boss @ work
