My last purchase was new off the lot, it was out of necessity since I was on a one year probationary period at work and my TJ was bleeding me dry. I would not do it again unless it was absolutely a last resort, many used cars as you described have extended warranties or you can buy one to cover you in the event of repairs, I bought one with my Focus and it came in handy right around 90k and it expired at 100k.

Anyway. Good news. Jeep runs, and is mobile again.

Good deal rob

Question... A jk Rubicon rear Dana 44 might be falling in my lap... I haven't had the opportunity to look inside it.... But it was ran without fluid so I'd imagine it's pretty toast....

I'm hopefully getting it for free and I'll probably throw it on the Ole Craigslist... Anyone have an idea on what I should charge? Or should I just not bother with it?

Depends...is it straight? You need to check out the gears and locker as well. Bearings are probably toasted.

Complete rears go for about 1000-1200, so the fact that they may be just "giving" it to you is a cause for concern in itself...

I know inside is probably destroyed. But I figure I can at least get scrap from it.

She's not too bad looking. Once the car is on the road and driving i'll be able to pay some more attention to the Jeep. Definitely going to need new tires soon.

I shied away from the Cruze ... GM and all that.

I opted for a brand new 2013 Honda Civic a couple of years ago.

I drive on average 200 miles per day, five days a week.

Yeah imagine that a not so old Honda, with now over 100,000 miles on it.

HONDA 4 cylinder has a timing CHAIN .... keep the oil clean and that chain will damn near last forever.

I took it in at about 80,000 miles because I just know the ORIGINAL brakes needed changing.

They asked me " how do you stop if you are not using the brakes! "

Highway miles = low brake wear !!!!

^ honda is doing pretty dang good. Good buddy of mine works a dealership and says they don't really come back for major repairs.

Also swapped my tires around and no longer get DW. Tires are unbalanced and I'm going to need new ones soon anyway.

Sucks that I'm now moving back to it lol. I honestly don't see a point in my 1989 now... Besides the barney nostalgia and the price I got it for, I wanted it solely because I could put historic tags on it.

P.S I'll be back in Frederick for about four months come the 26th. Maybe some form of meet up?
