welp figured out my heat issue. While the fan speed switch was a little crusty, it turned out to be the connector on the mode selector switch was getting hot and melty. I get the fun of diving into wire diagrams now. I have a feeling this day is going to lead to a motor resistor and blower fan swap too. I grabbed a new switch and connector out of 2 Jeeps in the Junkyard, wires on the connector from the 89 renix are much thicker then the ones from the 96 switch. Thanks Ma Chrysler and tryin to save a penny.
Hawkins point Crazy ray's is in a sad state of XJ's. I counted 6 total, 4 pre 97 and 2 post 97. They did have a 99% intact Comanchee up there. Interior was moldy as hell and stunk to high heaven.
update: Blower fan works perfectly again. This spring I'm going to replace the fan motor and put in relays but I should be OK for now. If ever meet the penny pinchers who changed the wire size or the guy who designed the circuit in the first place, I'm gonna punch em square in the nose. All the power for the blower flows through the mode select switch, then splits to the fan speed switch and blower resistor. Its a horrible overly complicated design.

I didn't look at either of the 97+'s sorry. If anyone knows what color it was, There was a silver/pewter one and a dark blue possibly black one.

Its cold outside.
Went to two junkyards with Damien today. Forgot to mention that he bought another XJ: 1998 4x4 99,000 miles $400 green.
We went to crazy rays for a sunroof, but when we asked how much they said $172. So we left. I like the privately owned junkyards. They always give good deals and are helpful.
