Also I'm still on the look out for a 97+ hatch in forest green. I'm about to give up and go find a body shop.

Gaithersburg is about an hour from Annapolis. Does he have a shop? Is he able to do these test onsite or do I need to get to him? I'm calling around to get prices on the suggested test from the list that dukie sent on yesterday.

ill see if i can make it. got coordinates?
figured it would be far... still only pulling 12 mpg in the wagon (trying to figure out why the engine temp is fine at idle, but then it drops to about 160-ish when on the highway) but i will definitely see if i can spend the "one jeep day daddy gets a week that covers anything that needs to be done to/with it" can be spent wheeling lol

Mava i posted a few places I found online with good reviews also in the other thread.
Like i said when you call a place for an appointment, tell them you just need a compression test (wet and dry) and leak-down test performed, and that you want the valve cover taken off and the head inspected for cracks. That is all.
You can get the block(sniffer) test done as well, but it may be a moot point since it's obvious where the coolant is going. I already verified no leaks.

Thanks,I'll give him a call. I'm a bit discouraged today because calling around and speaking to various mechanics they are all saying the same thing. "That it will cost me much money in labor to pull apart and find problem" Called Adams Jeep there head guy said compression test will not work and I can pay him $104 to do a diagnosis, but I'd be wasting my money.Maybe I should just be focusing on finding an engine to drop in the baby and keep on moving. I'll make afew more calls to the local shops.

I cannot head down that way for a week, but would be willing to do a compression/ leakdown test for you. If you get the oil and pan gasket I can look at the lower end also
