damn this day sucked. Looking forward to getting my hands dirty, cooking some dogs and drinking some beer up at Alex's garage.

 

I made one for my son's 98. I used top quality materials including 10 AWG primary wire and it took me about three hours to put it together. I crimped & soldered every wire terminal and socketed the relays for easy replacement if necessary. If the ones you can buy are constructed of good stuff you can't make one cheaper. Not counting my time, an H4 connector harness using 10GA primary wire runs almost $60 and if you use 12GA its close to $53. (FWIW, I think 10GA is overkill as someone else noted. 12GA gets you 22ish amps if you use good wire.) If I were going to make these for resale, I'd have to charge $100 to make it worthwhile.

Here's my bill of materials.

Hella 8718 SPST Dual 87 relays with brackets and sockets: $20
H4 Connectors & wire terminals: $10
Inline fuse holders & fuses: $7
Wire loom: $6
Heat shrink: $2
14GA signal wire for headlights: $1
Subtotal.............................$46
ADD: 10GA primary wire for headlights to relays: $11.50
ADD: 12GA primary wire for headlights to relays: $7

The difference in the brightness and clarity of the light is: priceless.

 

That's a not a bad idea but $15 for 128mb is pricey.

I'm trying to work out how to connect a deck to the computer and burn tapes. Just haven't put much time into it yet. Much more fun to try and source them at old record stores

It isn't about the 128mb; it's about nostalgia. It's a gift; not something you use to transport files to and from work.

 

This is very similar to how mine is built. Been rock solid for over a year running 100/55 H4 Hellas.

I do. As a matter of fact, I had a big *** old tape recorder that me and my sister used to use to record songs off the radio. I also remember my first CD player and my first MP3 player. I was pissed when we got our first stereo without a cassette deck.
